Time line 1970-1975 • 1970: Floppy disc was announced by IBM. • 1971: Bill Gates and Paul Allen sell computer traffic analysis system. • 1971: First network email sent. • 1972: 8080 microprocessor introduced by Intel. • 1973: Bob Kahn and Vint Cerf Had the basic idea of the internet. • 1974: 4Kbit dRam chip made. • 1975: First laser printer invented by IBM.

Time line 1976-1980 • 1976: Bill gates drops out of college. • 1976: First inkjet printer release. • 1977: Delivers first Apple II system. • 1977: First shipment of Apple II computers to Europe. • 1978: Intel introduces 16-bit cpu. • 1979: Space invaders game introduced to Japan. • 1980: Sirius Software begins. • 1980: Xerox computer stores open in Dallas.

  4. Time line 1981-1985 • 1981:Mattel makes Intellivision home video game. • 1981:Sreve Jobs was elected chairman of Apple. • 1982: Apple finds out about legal action against Apple II clones. • 1983:Game Colecovision consoles hit $199.95 • 1983: Commodore has sold over a million VIC-20’s.

  6. CPU • CPU stands for central processing unit. • The CPU is basically the brains of the computer. • Without this you cant play games, or surf the web.

  7. Video cards • A video card is a piece of hardware in the computer that is responsible for the image seen on your screen. • The higher the resolution on the card the better of the quality of the picture.

  8. ram • RAM stands for Random Access Memory. • They are computer chip that allows you to temporarily store information. • They are also used in other devices such as printers.

  9. Hard drive • A hard drive is also HDD. • The hard drive is where all the files and programs are stored. • If it gets damaged you will lose all your saved files. • Information is stored on long strips of tape with a magnetic surface.

  10. Cd-rom • A CD-ROM is a Compact Disc – Read Only Memory. • Also known as a compact disc drive.

  11. Usb port • Every computer these days have several USB port in convenient places. • The older computers had one or two located in the back of the computer.

  12. Pci card • PCI stands for Peripheral Component Interconnect. • Input/output serial technology. • Invented in 1991.

  13. Motherboard • A motherboard is a circuit board on the lowest level of the computer. • The CPU, RAM, Hard Drive, Disc drives, and other drives are plugged into the motherboard.

  14. Power source • A device that takes an incoming electrical current and amplifies it to the demand of many different devices. • It takes electricity to other devices and it is often at different preset levels.
