Unsaturated Hydrocarbons. Hydrocarbons that don’t contain all single bonds between the carbon atoms. Alkanes are saturated hydrocarbons. They only contain single bonds. Alkenes. Have the general formula C n H 2n Structure contains at least one double bond.

  1. Unsaturated Hydrocarbons • Hydrocarbons that don’t contain all single bonds between the carbon atoms. • Alkanesare saturated hydrocarbons. • They only contain single bonds.

  2. Alkenes • Have the general formula CnH2n • Structure contains at least one double bond. • When naming them, the parent chain name ends in–ene.

  3. Draw: 3-ethyl-1-pentene

  5. Draw: 4-butyl-1-cyclohexene

  6. Name: C-C=C-C=C=C-C-C

  7. Alkynes • Have the general formula CnH2n-2 • Structure contains at least one triple bond. • When naming them, the parent chain name ends in–yne.

  8. Draw: 2-pentyne

  9. Draw:3-ethyl-3-methyl-1-hexyne

  10. Name: C C-C-C-C-C-C-CΞC-C C C-C-C-C
