  1. Enhancement of Data Quality in Distributed Open Access Repositories Thomas Severiens University of Osnabrück Germany CRIS2008, Maribor, Slovenia, June 5, 2008

  2. Open Access Network • Supported by the German Research Foundation (DFG) from July 2007 until September 2009 • Project partners: • Humboldt University in Berlin • Göttingen State- and University Library • University of Osnabrück CRIS2008, Maribor, Slovenia, June 5, 2008

  3. Motivation • > 1.000 Institutional Repositories worldwide (> 100 in Germany) • These Repositories take the role of a Show Case for their institutions • Added values of networking need standardizations of interfaces and enhanced data quality. CRIS2008, Maribor, Slovenia, June 5, 2008

  4. Motivation #2 • DINI Certificate for Publication Services defines basic principles: • Visibility of Services • Documentation and Policies • Guidance for Authors • Legal Aspects • Security of the System and Services • Classification (DDC) • Statistics • Long-Term Availabilty • How to build Added Values based on the Certificate? CRIS2008, Maribor, Slovenia, June 5, 2008

  5. Goals OA-Network aims to virtually integrate all document and publication services with a DINIcertificate and to increase the number of DINI certified repositories. • Intensify networking of Repositories (technically and administratively) • Motification of further institutions to start the process of the certification • Build a technical infrastructural framework as • Service • Development and evaluation platform • Cumulative Searching and Subject Browsing CRIS2008, Maribor, Slovenia, June 5, 2008

  8. Principles • Central data holding • Distributed Services via REST WebServices • Import limited to Certified, German Repositories (in the beginning) • Clearing of data • Metadata export globally (to increase visibility of the repositories and optimize impact) to e.g. Google-Scholar • Cooperation with other projects like Driver (exchange of experiences and algorithms) CRIS2008, Maribor, Slovenia, June 5, 2008

  9. Status • Framework specified • Web-Services and Data holding were developed. • All key-algorithms have been tested. • Prototype will be published „in summer 2008“. CRIS2008, Maribor, Slovenia, June 5, 2008
