  2. Freelancingaroundtheglobe • Travelling and freelancing can be like a match made in heaven if it’s done right. Experiencing different cultures, broadening your horizon and never having a dull moment as you travel around the world may sound just a little too good to be true, but it is definitely possible as a freelancer. • Picking out the cities you visit and live in is not a task that should be taken lightly. Finding just the right mix of affordability, networking opportunities, good weather and any other aspects you might consider requires extensive research. To give you a little nudge and set you on the right track, we made this list of five cities that you should definitely consider if you want to be a globetrotting freelancer.

  3. 1) Chiang Mai, Thailand • With its 160,000 citizens, Chiang Mai is the most important city in northern Thailand and a sprawling freelance hub. It is very much on the lower end of the cost scale – a month there will be roughly $600. This estimate, as all others in the article include a hotel, hostel or apartment in the city plus three meals a day. Definitely a city to consider for those of you who love sunny weather, with average temperatures of around 26 °C (75° F). Internet connectivity is good at an average of 20 Mbps.

  4. 2) Prague, Czech Republic • Next stop central Europe. If you’ve never been to Prague, it is absolutely a destination to recommend, for both work and travel. This beautiful city will be a bit more taxing on your finances, with a rough estimate of $1100 which may vary a lot depending on accommodation and eating habits. Internet connectivity is amongst the highest from this list and the great air quality and the absolutely mesmerizing scenery put the cherry on the cake.

  5. 3) Taipei, Taiwan • Our next journey leads us to the wonderful island known as Taiwan and its capital Taipei. Here you will find an incredible mix of traditional Chinese and Japanese culture with influences of Confucianist beliefs and Western values. If you’re interested in that, Taipei should be on top of your list. It will cost you a pretty penny though, with a monthly estimate of about $2000 which can, again, vary a lot. Warm weather and great internet connectivity wrap it up for Taiwan’s capital.

  6. 4) Bangalore, India • Next off we will be flying over to India and the capital of the Karnaka state, Bangalore. With 8.4 million it is the second biggest city in the list and something you should look into if you’re more the metropolitan type. Known as the Silicon Valley of India, this city has a lot to offer if you’re doing anything connected with technology. It is also the cheapest destination on our list, hovering slightly below $600 a month. It has a pleasantly warm climate all year long. Bangalore is definitely a city worth being number 1 on our list, but the slow internet speed averaging around 5 Mbps can be off-putting to freelancers who like to always be connected on the move.

  7. 5) Buenos Aires, Argentina • And finally we set off to South America and its second-largest metropolitan area. Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina has a staggering amount of people living in it – 15.5 million. It is extremely culturally rich. The sheer number of festivals, concerts and theater plays in Buenos Aires place it amongst the top in the world. That does come at a price, however. You can expect to pay around $1,700 monthly and the air pollution is highest here, compared to the other cities on our list so keep that in mind.
