The EUA Council for Doctoral Education was established in January 2008 to advance doctoral studies across Europe. Its Launch Conference, held from June 1-3, 2008, at the University of Lausanne, brought together nearly 300 participants from 35 countries, including academic leaders, researchers, and policy makers. The conference aimed to enhance the quality of doctoral education through good practice exchange, institutional policy development, and fostering international dialogue. Introduction • EUA established Council for Doctoral Educationin January 2008, as its own integral part, to support the development of doctoral studies in Europe. • The Launch Conference of the EUA Council for Doctoral Education took place at the University of Lausanne in Switzerland, June 1-3, 2008. • Almost 300 academic leaders, researchers, policy makers and other stakeholders from 35 countries participated in this event. Motivation to participate in this conference... ... from a point of view of a DEUKS Project representative: • DEUKSis based on studies and surveys related to doctoral education in Europe, conducted by EUA. • Being halfways withDEUKSimplementation, and facing further and more ambitious projects on doctoral education in Serbia, to be on a ”hot spot” and hear about experiences and plans of others felt extremely appropriate.
