  1. Trainee & Student Subsistence Harmonisation Proposal James Purvis

  2. Overview (Current) • Interns (Stagiaires) 1500 chf/month • Child of Personnel 1717 chf/month • Summer Students 2830 chf/month • Administrative Students 2830 chf/month • Technical Students 3283 chf/month • Doctoral Students 3679 chf/month

  3. Considerations for Logic • Duration of stay / access to hostel • Selection Process • Level of Studies “Students are entitled to a subsistence allowance at a rate depending on the specific programme” (CERN/2944) RA7 of SRR (June 2012) provides framework

  4. Proposal 1 Align interns with Child of Personnel • Both at 1500 chf/month Origin of Request • Feedback from departments, DAOs & AC11 sub-group on subsistence Justification • Child of Personnel is ‘unskilled labour’ • Tasks given are often same as Stagiaire & require same supervision • No logic why CERN interns who are children of MoP should have 217chf more than none-CERN intern

2814 chf 3488 chf

  6. Proposal 2 Align Administrative Student & Technical Student • Both to amount of Technical students (3283) Origin of Request • Departments via TSC, Feedback, DAOs Justification • Historically • Admin students didn’t go thru selection committee • Admin students were for short stay • Now • Admin students go thru same process as Technical for selection • Admin students have same duration as technical students

  7. Cost impact “I agree with you that there is no reason to treat differently ADMI and TECH. In what to me respects you have PH support to treat equally these students” (PH DPO) “I confirm that we will find a way to absorb this delta. I actually thought that this decision had been taken at the last students committee.” (GS DPO) ∆ 453chf/month • DG: 5 students • FP : 3 students • GS : 3 students • HR : 1 student • PH : 3 students All Department representatives of TSC agree All DPOs of departments concerned contacted and agree & support proposal DG-RPC support the logic “It was already clear to me that the subsistence for admin students  would be aligned to tech. ones and I personally think that it is a very good thing to have almost  the same ‘treatment’ for both categories” (FP DPO) “I confirm we can absorb this.” (DG DPO)
