  5. Research questions 1] How widespread is the problem and how serious is it? 2] What can be done to control the problem? 3] Are available remedies applicable to our situation and do they actually alleviate the problem? 4] Are our beekeepers knowledgeable about the problem and how to address it?

Project Objectives 1) To determine the incidence and severity of Varroa mites and Small Hive Beetles (SHB) in hived and feral colonies in selected areas in Uganda, representing different agro-ecologies, altitude ranges and seasons 2) To evaluate control options for Varroa and Small hive beetles and the associated honeybee colony performance (colony strength, absconding rates, honey yield) in Uganda. 3) To undertake capacity building of beekeepers groups in four agro-ecological zones of Uganda
