  1. Training Guide for theNSTX Clock – Countdown Checkpoints Document: NSTX-WBS6-UG-13 22AUG2005 P. Sichta

  2. Introduction • The NSTX Central Clock has software to provide two Checkpoints that will abort the countdown. • PreSequence Check (CK03) • PrePulse Check (CK04) • A Checkpoint failure will be indicated on main clock page CK02. • Digi-talker will announce “Shot Aborted”. It will not announce that it aborted due to a checkpoint failure. NSTX-WBS6-UG-13

  3. CK02 Display Page ABC or ABS message will be shown here. Clears the message fields. Poke for links NSTX-WBS6-UG-13

  4. PreSequence Check (PSC) • This check runs 10 seconds after the clock cycle is started at SOC (StartOfCycle). • When this check passes the Shot Number is committed. • If this check fails, the shot cycle will abort with an Aborted Cycle (ABC) event. NSTX-WBS6-UG-13

  5. PrePulse Check (PPC) • This check runs at T(-10). • When this check passes the shot cycle will continue (SOP, T(0) events, etc...) • If this check fails, the shot cycle will abort with an Aborted Sequence (ABS) event. • No SOP or T(0) events will be generated. • The Shot Number will not be re-used. NSTX-WBS6-UG-13

  6. CK03 PreSequence Check Configure Here. Desciption of the checkpoint This shows the current status of the individual checkpoint This shows and retains the status of the individual checkpoint during the last check-time (latched). This shows and retains the status of the final checkpoint during the last check-time (latched). NSTX-WBS6-UG-13

  7. PreSequence Checkpoint Descriptions • SGI Probe Check • This will fail if the SGI Probe is in the Disabled Mode and the Retracted limit switch is not showing ‘retracted’. This indicates the probe has drifted inwards. • Clock CAMAC Loaded • This will pass only if the CAMAC crates used with the clock system have been properly loaded (after a computer reboot or power failure). NSTX-WBS6-UG-13

  8. CK04 PrePulse Check Desciption of the checkpoint Configure Here. Poke for links This shows the current status of the individual checkpoint This shows and retains the status of the individual checkpoint during the last check-time (latched). This shows and retains the status of the final checkpoint during the last check-time (latched). NSTX-WBS6-UG-13

  9. Motor Generator PrePulse Check Configuration Display This supercedes the individual Disables. Configure Here. NSTX-WBS6-UG-13

  10. PrePulse Checkpoint Descriptions for Motor Generator Systems • See display MG04. • MG1 Voltage • The MG1 Voltage must be greater than the Min. Setpoint shown on the left side of the page. • MG1 Speed • The MG1 Speed must be greater than the Min. Setpoint shown on the left side of the page. • MG2 Voltage • The MG2 Voltage must be greater than the Min. Setpoint shown on the left side of the page. • MG2 Speed • The MG2 Speed must be greater than the Min. Setpoint shown on the left side of the page. NSTX-WBS6-UG-13

  11. GIS/Glow Probe PrePulse Check Configuration Display This supercedes the individual Disables. NSTX-WBS6-UG-13

  12. PrePulse Checkpoint Descriptions for GIS/Vacuum Systems • See display GS07. • Vacuum PLC in Timed Mode • The PLC has a STEADY mode and a TIMED mode. Steady is for GDC and Timed is for plasma ops. This will PASS if the system is in Timed Mode. • CAMAC Ready • This will pass only if the CAMAC crates used with the gas injection system have been properly loaded (after a computer reboot or power failure). • Movable Glow Probe GDC1 OK • This will PASS only if the MGP is in the fully retracted position. This is meant to ensure that the probe is not in the vacuum vessel during a plasma attempt. NSTX-WBS6-UG-13
