  2. “Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle and set apart for the gospel of God.” • Romans 1:1

  3. PAUL - THE MAN -- Romans 1:1 • Paul describes himself three ways: • I'm "a servant of Christ Jesus". • I'm "called to be an apostle". • I'm "set apart for the gospel of God".

  4. PAUL'S MESSAGE -- Romans 1:2-6 • Paul's message is the gospel.

  5. “2 which He promised long ago through His prophets in the Holy Scriptures— 3 concerning His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, who was a descendant of David according to the flesh 4 and who has been declared to be the powerful Son of God,” • Romans 1:2-4a

  6. What can we say about the "Gospel"? • (v. 2) - It's promised in the Bible.

  7. "God, in times past, spoke to us by his prophets many different ways but now He's spoken to us through His son, Jesus Christ." • Hebrews 1:1-2

  8. "And beginning with Moses and all the prophets He explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning Himself." • Luke 24:27

  9. What can we say about the "Gospel"? • (v. 3) - The gospel is a person, Jesus Christ.

  10. "For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way just as we are without sin." • Hebrews 4:15

  11. What can we say about the "Gospel"? • (v. 4) - Jesus was not only 100% man but He is also 100% God.

  12. "Who through the Spirit of holiness was declared with power to be the Son of God by His resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ, our Lord." • Romans 1:4

  13. “and if Christ has not been raised, then our proclamation is without foundation, and so is your faith.” • 1 Corinthians 15:14

  14. Jesus is His personal name. • Christ is His official name. • Lord is His title.

  15. What can we say about the "Gospel"? • (v. 5) - It is a gospel of grace.

  16. “For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.” • Ephesians 2:8-9

  17. What can we say about the "Gospel"? • (vv. 5-6) - It's a gospel for the whole world.

  18. "Through Him and for His name sake we receive grace and apostleship to call people from among all the Gentiles and to the obedience that comes from faith. And you also are among those who are called and belong to Jesus Christ." • Romans 1:5-6

  19. PAUL'S MINISTRY -- Romans 1:7-12 • A saint is somebody who belongs to Jesus Christ. • Do you want to help people grow in the Lord? Develop a ministry of encouragement.

  20. "... because your faith is being reported all over the world." • Romans 1:8b

  21. "God whom I serve with my whole heart in preaching the gospel of his Son is my witness how constantly I remember you in my prayers all the time." • Romans 1:9

  22. Praying members make a strong church!

  23. "I pray for you at all times and I pray that now at last, by God's will, a way may be open to come to you." • Romans 1:10

  24. "I long to see you so that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to make you strong. That is that you and I may be mutually encouraged by each other's faith." • Romans 1:11-12

  25. Paul wanted to share his gift of teaching.

  26. How to have a ministry: • Encourage people. • Pray for people. • Spend time with Christians. • Use your spiritual gift.
