  3. Joseph Smith • Joseph Smith Jr. is the founder of Mormonism. • He is born in Windsor County, Vermont, in 1805. • He did not go beyond the fourth grade. He was known as a “digger after treasure”. PRESENTATION TITLE • St. Mark Coptic Church • Charlotte, NC

  4. Revelation • At the age of 15, he retired to the woods to ask for God’s wisdom. He later declared that two heavenly personage appeared to him, claiming to be God the Father and the Son. • He was counseled to join none of the religious groups that were working for converts in the area, because they were wrong. • He was advised to wait further word and to prepare himself for important task in the future. Revelations • This is followed by a series of revelations climaxed in 1823 by a visit from angel Moroni, the son of Mormon. • Moroni told Joseph about some golden plates, hidden on a little hill near Palmyra containing a significant writing. Revelations • He was forbidden to remove these golden plates from their hiding place until such time as God direct him to do so. • He has also told of a “magical” mean of interpreting and translating the message written on these plates. The Book Of Mormons • In 1827, Smith married Emma Hale, and soon after his marriage he had another vision which he said gave permission to “translate” the “reformed Egyptian Hieroglyphics inscribed upon the goldenplates by means of “Urim and Thummim”, a type of miraculous spectacles which they always thoughtful angel Moroni had the foresight to provide for the seer.   8. The Book of Mormons • In addition the Lord provided a set of small plates (The Book of Nephi) which covered the exact history of the stolen pages.   9. The Aaraonic Priesthood • On May of 1829, Joseph Smith, along with his companion, Oliver Cowdery, claimed to have received the Aaronic priesthood from John the Baptist. PRESENTATION TITLE • St. Mark Coptic Church • Charlotte, NC

  10. The Melchizedek Priesthood • At later time, they claimed to have been visited by Peter, James, and John, and from them they received the Melchizedek Priesthood. PRESENTATION TITLE • St. Mark Coptic Church • Charlotte, NC

  13. Salvation • Salvation of Christ was not enough to save man. Salvation is solely dependent on the work of men. Salvation is and must a cooperative enterprise between God and man. • What Christ’s blood could not cleanse, a man’s own blood atonement could.   14. God • God Himself was once as we are now, and is an exalted man. • He is one of many Gods possessing a glorious immortal body of flesh and bones. • God possesses a form with definite proportions and a limited extension in space. PRESENTATION TITLE • St. Mark Coptic Church • Charlotte, NC

Eternal Life • Mormons believe in universal salvation and that all men will be saved, and enjoy eternity, but each one in his own order. • Mormons will be miraculously gathered in Missouri and the judgment of the Lord will be poured out upon the earth everywhere except on old and new Jerusalem. In Mormon’s Theology There are three heavens: • Telestial: inherited by heathen people who rejected the Mormon’s gospel. • Terrestrial: inherited by Christians who rejected the Mormons massage. • Celestial: inherited by Mormons, who will rule and populate a separate planet of their own.
