Global Warming Affects Polar Animals By Brandon Chalk J.T. Nelson Jacob Steinbach
Penguins • HABITAT: • Penguins generally live on islands and remote continental regions free from land predators • Most nests are lined with plants, stones, or mud • Some penguins live in caves or along cliffs.
Penguins • Penguins are starting to desert parts of Antarctica because the icy waters are getting too hot • Penguins main food source, which is krill, is quickly depleting because of Global Warming
Seals • HABITAT: • Most live in the Arctic and Antarctic • They have a layer of thick fat that is called blubber to survive the cold waters • Blubber can store energy when there isn’t enough food • They like deep salt water because it will help them survive • They also live on islands and rocky shores, in cracks on the ice and in and some in warm climates
Seals • Their habitat is slowly depleting • Seals breeding habitats are slowing, and they’re having to move farther inland because the ice shelf is breaking
Polar Bears • Habitat • Found in cold ocean waters or on ice adrift • Found all over the Arctic regions • Their main habitat is pack ice • Seals are their main food source
Polar Bears • Polar bears depend on sea ice as a platform so they can hunt seals • Global warming is now the biggest threat to polar bears • It is destroying all of the ice that they need to survive on • Research has found that the cubs are not surviving as well • Researchers found adult polar bears didn’t weigh as much
How Global Warming affects those animals • Global warming is real, and it is happening more quickly in Antarctica and the North Pole than anywhere else • If Global Warming takes off another Ice Shelf and it melts, the sea level would rise extremely, leaving the animals without any habitats • Polar Animals and Global Warming
