  4. Polar Suite Lite with MSDE: Only available for the light version PolarSuite Lite. The system is installed with this light version of the MS SQL Server that does not require any license but has some limitations (max number of connections = 5). After installing Polar Suite with MSDE, you must run the Server Application first. Enter the following password when asked for it when you run the Server Application for the first time: Admin User: sa Password: polarix06 Polar Suite with existing SQL Server: The system is installed on an existing SQL Server. (Product provided by Microsoft Co). In this case the user name and password must be the default admin user and password for the MS SQL Server. Polar Suite can work also with other SQL Server products like Oracle, MySQL, etc. The number of connections (clients), vehicles, traffic and remote consumers determine the quantity and the power of the Server Room (see previous page). Polar Suite can be installed on just one machine that does everything (SQL, Web and Communications) or through a wide sub-masked network with many computers for SQL Server backup, Web Servers, Communications Servers, etc. WARNING: Do not forget to turn on the SQL Authentication option for the SQL Server.

  5. THE LOGIN DIALOG This dialog appears as soon as the application starts. The Gray Box contains the Database Connection Info. This information is needed only the first time you connect to your DB or if you are a power user and you want to connect to another DB. Server Name: Name of SQL Server Database: Name of your company. The Blue Box appears only in the Client Application (not needed by the Server Application). In the Blue Box you enter your user login and password. • The Login Dialog serves as the identification vestibule for PolarSuite Applications including our Web based PolarNET service. • Mostly you will deal only with 1 Database = 1 Company. However the system is flexible to handle multiple companies under the same database for centralized monitoring if required (Macro-Users).

  6. NOTE: The Server Application is monitored only in case of troubleshooting; otherwise you may just ignore it, while it is silently taking care of the wellbeing of your system. The Server Application is the heart of the entire system… The Server Application is in charge of the communication between your vehicles and your Client Application. The server decodes the messages and refreshes the Database with the new information. A shortcut to the Server Application should be placed in the Startup Menu of your Windows Operating System. This will avoid forgetting to start the Server every time you reset your machine. The Server Application also takes care of the triggers and the alarms, therefore it is important to be sure it is working fine. The Application saves a heartbeat (pulse) in the Database and its status is monitored by the Client Application. If the Server hangs or crashes, the Client Application will show the sign for Server Down in the left bottom corner of the Status Bar.

  7. Console Framework Top Menu Top Toolbar Caption Bars The Client Application: Consists of a Main Console from where you have access to the different features available in the suite. • The Top Menu and Toolbar open windows that can be docked to any place within the console framework. Among the components of the Suite you will find: • Fleet Management • Tracking • Reports Each window within the Console can be moved and docked by clicking on the Caption Bar of the window you want to move, keeping the mouse button pressed, drag it until you see the ghost frame of the window signaling a docking position (left, right, up, down or just as a document), then release the mouse button.

  8. Fleet Management: To open the Fleet Management, click the Management Button on the Console Tab. The Fleet Management features a set of icon buttons in the top toolbar of this window. Each of them open an Editor Window where you can enter, change and delete specific information for a selected item as it is shown for the Vehicle Editor in the picture here. Among the editors you will find: Vehicles Vehicle Types Operators (drivers) Settings (various) Alarms and Triggers Each editor can be freed from the default docked position as documents within the Fleet Management Framework. You can open more than one editor as shown in the picture above, but it is recommended to close the editor window once you have finished editing an item.

  9. Map Toolbar Map Locator Item Type Item Toolbar Info Panel Item List Status Bar Tracking: You can monitor your tracked vehicles in a mapping view. You can open many map views from different maps or just different views of the same maps. Your limit is the memory installed in your machine. Maps can be PolarMap (imported data), MS MapPoint or a Raster Map (bitmap). The system will ask you what type of map do you want to open and then browse to find the map file. Each Map Views is a Tracking Centre with a list that shows the viewed objects (checked) of the type selected in the upper drop-down menu. PolarMaps have a status bar with the current position of the Pointer (last clicked point) and the current mouse position with the distance between these two points. At the right you can open the Info Panel with the Map Locator (global overview of the map). To view data in the Info Panel, select an icon in the map using the Info Selector Tools (Segment Selector or Object Selector). To pan or zoom use the status buttons in the left toolbar. In the list, select an item and click the Find Button to locate it in the map view.

  10. Control Panels: The Docking Capabilities allows you to organize the different panels on your screen. In the sample shown in the picture: The Upper Area contains the Main Menu and Button Bars. The Left Area has the Vehicle Tree-View and the Entity List from where you can access quickly to any object and ask the system for information or plot it into a map view. The Center Area contains the actual map view (map toolbars appear hidden in the sample). The Right Area is used as a Dock for the Control Panels. The Lower Area contains the status bars. Among the Control Panels you will find the Command Control for sending commands to vehicles with specific devices, the Alarm Panel where the system notifies avery monitored event for each vehicle and the Navigation Panel which displays the current dynamic data for a selected vehicle.

  11. Closest Vehicle: Just a click of then mouse on the map and press the Find Closest button to get a list of the closest vehicle to the selected address. The Closest Vehicle Panel is shown in the picture to the right of the active map view. You can preset different search conditions like the radius around the address, the last time the vehicle notified its position and its current status. Select a vehicle the Closest Vehicle List and ask for the Quick Info Dialog where the system will tell you who is the current operator, the distance to the point and the estimated time of arrival in minutes (ETA). Because you can open how many map views you want, you can also have a different search for Closest Vehicles in each of them at the same time.

  12. Address Finder Play Back Toolbar Address Box Map Toolbar Selected Vehicle in Play Back Mode Info Panel On/Off Play Back: The Play Back is one of the most useful features for getting back to a previous date an checking the movement of a selected vehicle during a specific interval of time. To start a Play Back, click the Play Back Button. After selecting in the Play Back Dialog, the vehicle, the date and time interval, the system hides all the other vehicles leaving only the selected one in the map view. The Play Back Toolbar becomes active. Using these buttons you can move back and forth in time, pause, restart; just use it as a normal VCR control.

  13. Report Toolbar Category / Sub-Category Report List Reports: To open the Report Viewer, click the Report Tab Reporting is done very easily in Polar Suite. There are two types of reports: Quick Reports: SQL Query statements that are shown in on-top HTML Viewers from where you can print, fax, save as a file or email the report. Crystal Reports: These are standard RPT files that can be designed using Crystal Reports. Using the Report Viewer you can install the files in the system, review the data, export or print the report. In the Report Viewer, reports can be classified and grouped by Categories and Sub-Categories. You can also change the icon for each of the Report Categories and rename the reports.

  14. Installation Wizard: When running the Installation Wizard follow the on-screen instructions and navigate using the Back and Next buttons. Please, read carefully the installation instructions in the next page. For any questions during the installation procedure contact your local dealer or send us a support request via our web site: www.polarix.com NOTE: The installation of this system is a recognition of the EULA (End User License Agreement) published in our web site. Please click to move to the next page and read the installation instructions.

  15. Installation Instructions Required software: • If you don’t have a previous SQL Server, install the free light version by running the SETUP.EXE file located in the MSDE folder in this CD. • You can install the MS .NET Framework from the Microsoft Website or directly from this CD by running the DOTNETFX.EXE located in the NET Framework folder. Installation Programs: • In your server machine (SQL Server or MSDE) run the SETUP.EXE file for the Server Program located in the PTServer folder. Follow the online instruction of the Installation Wizard. • Run the SETUP.EXE file for the Client Program located in the PolarSuite folder. This application can be installed in the same machine as the Server or in any other machine on the network.

  16. PolarNET • PolarSuite is a broader concept than just a Server-Client Application. • From the modern enterprise environment till the advanced home power users, everybody wants the best of a Rapid Windows App running in a LAN-WAN and the cross-platform and worries-free installations of a Web Browser App. • PolarSuite offers you a scalable fully compatible framework to design your own system infrastructure. Some customers prefer just the web based PolarNET service, others want to have control of their databases (LAN-Windows Apps) and a third growing-up group wants to have both at the same time and they’ve got it for sure. • Another amazing feature of the PolarSuite is the ability to be hosted as an independent PolarNET Service Provider besides your internal Sever-Client Enterprise Solution. Or you can just become a PolarNET Service provider and earn your own money.
