  5. The Action Verb • If it’s an action verb: • cross out any prepositional phrases • Label the verb with a V • Label the subject with an S • Ask who or what receives the action? >if there is a noun to receive it- DO 5. Ask who or what receives the DO? >if there is a noun to receive it- IO

  6. DO/IO Pattern • Remember: S-V-IO-DO S-V-DO S-V

  7. Transitive & Intransitive • Action verbs can be either transitive or intransitive. • Transitive= has a DO • Intransitive = no DO (Linking verbs can NOT be intransitive!)
