JEM PLT OV 21407 • Payload Laptop Terminal (PLT) • Overview

  2. Objectives After this lesson trainee will be able to: • Purpose of PLT - Explain the purpose and operational concept of PLT. • PLT Interface and architecture - Identify the JEM C&DH component that communicates with PLT. - Identify the softwares installed in PLT. • Perform following tasks according to ODF without instructor’s assistance • - PLT activation/Deactivation - IPU bit rate change for VRU via PLT

  5. Purpose of PLT Purpose of PLT - PLT is one of the onboard laptop computer (A31p) dedicated to JAXA payload operations. Operational Concept Ground Commanding as primary operation - Ground is responsible for commanding/monitoring JAXA Payloads. - However, there are the cases that ground can not operate the P/Ls. In these cases, crewmember might be requested to command/monitor JAXA Payloads as backup of ground. PLT will be used as a backup solution no alternative method for missions success

  7. Utility Outlet Panel (UOP) PLT Interfaces (Cont’d) As for the Ports for P/L Bus, 3 ports are used: - Payload Bus 3 (UOP b1 AD2 or UOP a2 FD4) or - Payload Bus E (UOP in US LAB). Saibo Rack (JPM1A2) Ryutai Rack (JPM1A3) Workstation rack (JPM1 F4) Aft Port Forward UOP for PL Bus E Starboard UOP a2 FD4 UOP b1 AD2 JPM UOP location for PLT US Lab UOP location for PLT PLT’s location after C/O

  8. PLT Architecture PLT is set up with the software component for JAXA payload operations. PLT hardware(A31p) and operating system software (Red hat Linux) are the same as the ISS PCS and SLT. PLT Local Bus Interface Software (PLT LBIS) provides C&DH function. PLT Application Software (PLT ASW) provides unique displays for each payload operations. A31p PLT ASW PLT LBIS Red hat Linux

  9. Key points during PLT Operations Emphasis : PLT is not planned to use for any critical operations.

  10. PLT operational flow • PLT installation in JPM • (common to that of other laptop terminals (PCS, SLT, etc) ). PLT Installation • Power on PLT • Activate PLT LBIS & PLT ASW PLT activation Perform at hands-on training • Command/monitoring telemetry PLT operations for P/Ls control • Deactivate PLT ASW & PLT LBIS • Power off PLT PLT deactivation PLT stowing
