WHY ARE WE STUNTING ? • COULD WE HAVE A DEFENSIVE BREAKDOWN OF 4 COACHES ? • # 1 QUESTION- HANDLING A TIGHT-END SIDE-WORSE-WHAT IF DOUBLE TIGHT END ? OFF TACKLE • HOW MUCH DO WE PUT IN ? GOERGIA MILITARY, WEST VIRGINIA, WAKE FOREST, TULSA, MEMPHIS, & MISSISSIPPI STATE • WHAT IF PEOPLE GET HURT-SUB FOR EACH POSITION. • WILL FALCONS BE PILL OR FORCE ? WHAT HAVE WE ALWAYS DONE ? • WILL ZONE BLOCKING STOP OUR STUNTING?

BASIC CONCEPTS WE MUST REMEMBER- • THIS IS NOT A GIMMICK DEFENSE-YOU MUST STILL DO A GREAT JOB OF TEACHING BASIC TECHNIQUES • THERE WILL POSSIBLY BE OFFENSIVE SETS THAT WE MAY NOT WANT TO BE IN THE 3-5-3 STACK AGAINST • DEFENSE IS STILL REACTING, PURSUING, & TACKLING • AFTER RESEARCHING THE DEFENSE TEACH WHAT OUR PLAYERS ARE CAPABLE OF PERFORMING

  7. BASICS OF THE 3-5-3 DEFENSE V. KNOWING HOW THE 3-5-3 THEORY DIFFERS- • TYPES OF PLAYBOOK/VIDEO INFORMATION-WAKE FOREST,TULSA. MEMPHIS,MISSISIPPI STATE, AIR FORCE, WEST VIRGINIA, & GEO. MILITARY-WE HAVE TO TAKE WHAT FITS US AND WHAT OUR KIDS CAN DO-WHAT MATCHES OUR PAST THEORIES OF DEFENSIVE PLAY. • 2005/2006 WE PLAYED 5 STRONG SAFETIES NONE OF WHICH COULD HAVE BEEN A 50 INSIDE LINEBACKER

  8. BASICS OF THE 3-5-3 DEFENSE VI. DOWN 3- NOSE GUARD & DEFENSIVE ENDS A. WEARE LOOKING FOR ATHLETES INSTEAD OF THE TRADITIONAL DOWN 3 IN THE MICHIGAN 50 ANGLE DEFENSE. OUR NOSEGUARD WAS THE SAME TYPE OF ATHLETE AND OUR DEFENSIVE ENDS WERE WHAT HAD BEEN OUR DEFENSIVE ENDS IN OUR 50. ** THEY ALL MUST BE ABLE TO RUN-RUN-RUN B. NO 2 GAP PLAYERS. THEY ARE MOVING ON EVERY OFFENSIVE PLAY-NEVER TAKE ONAN OFENSIVE BLOCKER 1-ON-1. C. TECHNIQUES- WE WANTED TO MAINTAIN OUR 3 WAY GO. D. STEMMING- EXTREMELY EFFECTIVE.

  9. BASICS OF THE 3-5-3 DEFENSE VII. EXPLAIN HOW WE WANT OUR DOWN 3 TO SLANT-WE MUST BE ABLE TO REDIRECT • KEY- DE WILL READ THE OFFENSIVE LINEMAN HE IS SLANTING TO. OUR DE IS ACTUALLY ENDING UP IN EITHER A 3 TECH OR A 7 TECH. • NG WILL BE READING THE GUARD TO THE SIDE HE IS SLANTING. HE BASICALLY IS IN A 1 TECH EVERYTIME. ** OPEN SETS/OBVIOUS PASS-DE SET IN A WIDE 5. WE WILL TRY NOT TO PASS RUSH FROM A 4 TECH-SPEED RUSH.

LINEBACKERS- WE ARE PLAYING THIS DEFENSE EITHER BECAUSE WE DON’T HAVE STUD INSIDE LINEBACKERS OR WE HAVE TOPLAY DIFFERENT PLAYERS BECAUSE OF THE DIFFERENT TYPE OF KIDS WE NEED TO USE TO DEFEND THE SPREAD PASSING ATTACKS. • MIDDLE LINEBACKER DOESN’T HAVE TO BE THE BEST LINEBACKER GAP RESPONSIBILITY- A GAP OPPOSITE NOSEGUARD.EXPLAIN HOW DIFFERENT BACKFIELD FLOWS TAKE HIM OUT OF THE A GAP IMMEDIATELY- TOSS SWEEP. • KEY- FULLBACK. NO FULLBACK QUARTERBACK • ALIGNMENT- 4 ½ TO 5 YARDS • ALWAYS ATTACK DOWNHILL-NEVER PARALLEL

OUTSIDE LINEBACKERS- GAP RESPONSIBILITY IS EITHER B OR C GAP • KEY- NEAR BACK IS PRIMARY-SECONDARY IS OFFENSIVE LINEMAN TO SIDE YOU ARE FILLING (EITHER GUARD OR TIGHT END) • ALIGNMENT- 4 ½ YARDS STACKED OVER DEFENSIVE END (SPLIT HIS OUTSIDE LEG) • ALWAYS ATTACK DOWNHILL-NEVER PARALLEL ** EXPLAIN- STACK, SLIDE, & PULL 2X2 2X1 3X1 WHY I DON’T LIKE PULL-LBER’S NOT COVERED & WE HAVEN’T SPENT TIME TEACHING OLB 9 TECH.

IMPORTANT CONCEPT- “I’M HERE”-WHY-WHEN-HOW & OVER LAPPING

THIS YEAR WE PLAYED A FIELD AND BOUNDRY FALCON. • ALIGNMENT- • TE-SINGLE RECEIVER: 2 YARDS X 1 YARD • TE/WING-INSIDE FOOT TO OUTSIDE FOOT OF WINGBACK • TWINS- 1YARD INSIDE THE INSIDE RECEIVER AND 5/6 YARDS BACK (DOWN/DISTANCE) • TIGHT SLOT- 2X6 • PRO- 4X4 OFF TIGHT END (PASSING DOWN MOVE BACK TO 6X6) • SPLIT END-SINGLE RECEIVER- 5X5 (DOWN/DISTANCE WILL DICTATE) ** ALIGNMENT CAN CHANGE WITH MOTION ** IF PRIMARY RUN SUPPORT WE DO NOT SPILL/WRONG ARM
