  1. Probiotics: What Can They Do For You?

  2. If you’re reading this article, then it’s surely because you’ve recently learned about probiotics, and the important role they play in human (and animal, for that matter) health. If you are interested in learning about this in more depth, then you have come to the right place. Below, we are going to explore these wonderful little creatures in more depth. What is a probiotic? • Probiotics are a type of microorganism. They are usually bacterial, but they can also be fungal, too. When people hear terms like “bacteria” and “fungus”, their first thought is often one of disgust. However, probiotics are good – they are friendly bacteria and friendly fungus.

  3. Probiotics are “friendly” because they carry out vital services for the human body. They carry out these health services, and in return, we give them a place to live. What do probiotics do for our health? • A good analogy is to see us as a hotel. They are the staff that keeps everything in order. Here are a few things that they do: 1.Every now and again, we might get a rowdy guest staying in our hotel. This is bad bacteria – they have no manners and don’t care about throwing up, and even pooping, everywhere. Well, that’s what we do as a result of those guests. Sometimes bad bacteria arrives in hoards, and takes over the entire hotel!

  5. As soon as the staff gets wind of these bad hotel guests, they get after them and either kick them out entirely or keep them segregated from each other so they can’t team up. In other words, our friendly bacteria keeps bad bacteria in check. This is analogous to our probiotics destroying unfriendly bacteria that can lead to diarrhoea. 2.Sometimes, hotels might have an emergency gas leak. Usually, the staff keep a good check on gas levels and make sure all the pipe work is in good working order. When a leak happens, it’s because someone has been sleeping on the job – you might need to hire new staff (i.e. take a probiotic supplement, like Fivelac). Gas attacks can lead to big problems with your hotel. It can kill off the staff, and even some of the other guests.

  6. How is this relevant to the human body? Well, some of our bacteria consumes dangerous/obnoxious by products from food. One such by-product is sulphur. Sulphur leads to bloating, trapped wind, and flatulence. It isn’t just any old flatulence, though; it’s the super-smelly eggy kind that clears a room in seconds. You want people to like your hotel (i.e. body); you don’t want smelly-eggy gas leaks! • We only listed two examples of how probiotics help our body. There are many more too, including; improving mood, reducing bladder and UTI infections, lowering cholesterol, managing allergies, controlling candida (the bacteria responsible for thrush), and managing skin conditions, such as eczema. • There are many different types of probiotics, and they all carry out their own particular functions. Some might carry out the same functions as another one does, or they might have an entirely unique function.
