Grade 10-11 Programming Course: Get to Know Your Counsellor

This course introduces students to programming concepts and skills. Students will also have the opportunity to meet with their school counsellor to discuss post-secondary options. The course includes elective options in French Immersion and explores various career paths.

French Immersion * Students must take at least one of the (*) French Immersion elective courses in the grade 10, 11 or 12 year but may take more Immersion electives if they choose. ** It’s encouraged that a French Socials 12 credit is taken in grade 12 unless you are taking both French Socials courses.

  5. This requirement is completed in Grade 11 (Second Semester) and 12 (First Semester) Documentation to gather to prepare for this course: • DPA and Healthy Living Plan • Résumé • Work or volunteer hour documentation Students can start earning their 30 hours of volunteer or work hours in the summer before grade 10. This course is different than the current Grad Transitions course. There will be a lot more work attached to the course and you will be meeting with your teacher outside of class time. The course is still being developed and more information will be given when we have it. Career Life Connections & Capstone

  7. Numeracy Assessment All students must complete the numeracy assessment before graduation The numeracy assessment will not count towards your GPA January and June writing sessions

WORKin Trades Program popular student jobs carpenter cook landscaper mechanic Regardless of your career aspirations… if you have/get a paying job in a trade you can receive credits toward high school graduation: • 120 hrs working = 4 credits (up to 16 credits) • 900+ hrs worked (before age of 20) could qualify student for a $1,000 award… gave out 30+ scholarships last year • if you later pursue that trade career, those hours count towards certification

  19. Plan for Post Secondary Options • Go Directly Into Work Force • Acquire job skills • Explore Options • Try new things, volunteer, create opportunities, take some courses, travel • Continue Education at: • Vocational School (VCC) • College (Douglas) • Technology Institute (BCIT) • University

  20. Every Post Secondary has different admission requirements. It’s your responsibility to do your research on this. Universities are now evaluating based on grade 11 and 12 marks. Some current examples: • UBC: Evaluation based on 6 classes * Typically 4 of the 6 are program specific • SFU: Evaluation based on 5 classes (List A & List B Classes) Each university will have different admission requirements depending on what program & university you are looking into.
