  1. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid

  2. Made in 1969 • Directed by George Roy Hill • Also directed Funny Farm • Written by William Goldman • Won the ’76 Oscar for “All The President’s Men” • Starred Paul Newman as Butch • Oscar for “Color of Money” • Voiced Doc Hudson in “Cars” • Starred Robert Redford as Sundance • Oscar for directing “Ordinary People” • Also starred in Spy Game with Brad Pitt • Jack Lemmon turned down Sundance role for “Odd Couple” role

  3. Newman and Redford did jump off the cliff but only it was only six feet. • Newman, Redford, and Roy Hill also worked together on “The Sting” • “Hello Dolly” was being filmed right next door. • Bolivia scenes shot in Mexico. • All crew and cast came down with Monteczuma’s Revenge, except for Redford, Newman and Kathi Ross • Real sister of Butch Cassidy visited the set. • Brando considered to team with Newman.

  4. Bob Dylan was sought after to sing the iconic song, but declined. • All songs by Burt Bacharach • River jump scene shot at Century Ranch, Malibu, CA • Dustin Hoffman considered for role of Butch • Newman did own bicycling stunts because stunt double kept falling off. • Actual name of Butch and Sundance’s gang was the Wild Bunch, this name coincided with the Brando film so they changed it. • Body count = 30 • Original title was The Sundance Kid and Butch Cassidy

  5. Steve McQueen sought after for Sundance role but dropped out. • Warren Beatty also was considered. • On first day of train robbery scene, Ross came to the set. The crew was short a camerman so Ross filled in after being taught by the Cinematographer. • Real “Hole in the Wall Gang” hid near Delta, CO where one of their famous bank robberies occurred. • Won 9 BAFTA awards, the record for any film. • In actuality before they went to Bolivia the two bandits went to Patagonia (Argentina).

  6. The gun battle at the end was historically inaccurate. • Only a few officers and a relatively small number of Bolivian Army troopers. • Took place at night, not in daylight. • Won 4 Oscars, 1 Golden Globe, 1 Grammy, 2 Laurels, and 1 WGA Award. • Oscars – Cinematography, Music, Song, & Writing. • Golden Globe - Score (Music) • Grammy – Original Score for Motion Picture • Laurel – Action Drama & Music Man • WGA – Best Drama Written Directly for the Screen.
