History of Cheverny Chateau • Architecture is in Louis XIII style, not Renaissance • Jacques Bougier was the architect and he died before the project was finished and his successor signed the main staircase • Interior was decorated by Jean Monier • Supported by Marie de Medicis, who sent him to Italy to study design • Has always been occupied by people and this led to furniture from different eras coming into the castle • King Henri IV slept in the castle

Interior of the Castle • Dining Room • Wood paneling that tells the story of Don Quixote • King’s Chamber • Ceiling shows the story of Perseus and Andromeda • Wood paneling shows the story of Theagenes and Chariclea • Arms Room • Magnificent fireplace with gold leaf decorations and two lovers holding the painting “The Death of Adonis” by Jean Monier, the interior decorator • Tapestry from Manufacture des Gobelins that has never been restored • Tapestry Room • Louis XIV chest of drawers with boullemarquetry • Clock with bronze engravings
