  4. Miscommunication • Have you experienced miscommunication in your talk? • What is the cause of miscommunication? • How can we avoid it? • Is it true that good talk must not consist of miscommunication?

  6. In our discussion,… ….the process of fixing miscommunication will be referred to as “repair”, ….we will be using “trouble source” to refer to “the cause of miscommunication”.

Assignment 2 (15%) • Listen to a conversation among your family members. • Roughly transcribe the talk in which repair is found (3 incidences of repair; 2%x3= 6%). • Identify the trouble source (1%x3=3%). Describe the nature of the trouble source. • Indicate whether it is (1%x3=3%): • Self-initiated other-repair, • Self-initiated other-repair, • Other-initiatedself-repair, or • Other-initiated other-repair
