  4. Define: ASG • ASG is a student-led organization that acts as an organized voice for all students and strives to effectively represent student interests.

  5. ASG’s Purpose • “The Associated Student Government shall act as an organized voice for all students of the University of Arkansas, to effectively represent students in the University’s decision and policy making process and to provide a broad educational experience for students, while promoting citizenship on campus and in the greater community.  In doing so, ASG knowingly and responsibly recognizes the students’ roles in the shared governance of the University of Arkansas.”

Organizational Structure • Executive • Executive Committee: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, the Chair of the Senate, & the Chief of Staff • Cabinet: 53 appointed positions in 5 commissions (Outreach, Campus Life, Governance, University, and Communication) • Judicial • 9 Justices, 2 Judicial Proxies, and Judicial Appointed Positions • Legislative • 51 Senators • University Committees • About 70 individuals appointed by the ASG VP • Fresh H.O.G.S. • Freshman leaders selected via application and interview

Organizational Structure • Membership • Nearly 200 members make up the active membership of ASG. • Budget • ASG’s budget is at $700,000 with a majority of that allocated to RSO’s. • Programs • Safe Ride • Razorback Readership • President’s Council Scholarship • Clicker Check Out • Events • Rolling with the Razorbacks • Faculty Appreciation Banquet • Welcome Back Cookout • Town Halls

How the Elections Work • Any student enrolled in 1 credit hour is eligible to vote • Elections online at vote.uark.edu • Paper ballots are available in OSA (ARKU A665) • Login using UARK ID (without @uark.edu) and password • Students will have the ability to vote for a one President/Vice President Ticket, one candidate for Secretary, one candidate for Treasurer • Online Candidate Database • Application Question, Biographies, & Pictures

Election Specifics • Dates • Thursday, 2.14.13: Space Allocation Meeting in the Arkansas Union Theatre • Friday, 2.15.13: Applications due; submit a copy of your platform with application or email to rgtrejo@uark.edu • Wednesday, 2.20.13: Executive Candidates notified of official candidacy; Executive Soft/RSO campaigning begins at 12:01 am • Monday, 3.4.13: University wide campaigning begins at 12:01 am • Monday, 3.11.13: Voting begins at 9 am • Thursday, 3.14.13: Voting ends at 4 pm; Executive Election Cookout • Friday, 3.15.13: Expenditure Reports due at 12 pm noon; Violation Complaints due by 4pm

Election Specifics • Debates • Wednesday, 2.27.13: Election Debate One – Secretary/Treasurer • Tuesday, 3.5.13: Election Debate Two – President/Vice President • Thursday, 3.7.13: Election Debate Three/ Campaign Town Hall – ALL Executive Candidates • Friday, 3.15.13: Un-Official Election results are announced at 5 pm on Old Main Lawn • Friday, 5.3.13: Swearing In Ceremony • **Debate locations will be announced at a later date

Violations • Violations of the regulations as stated in this Statement on Elections – Elections Guidelines may include, but are not limited to: • Campaigning before permitted* • Libel/slander* • Posting campaign material in an improper location* • Use of ListServs without prior approval by the Elections Commissioner* • Remember, the candidate is liable for any and all violations committed on their behalf • All complaints must be submitted in writing (no anonymous complaints will be accepted) using official form in election packet or at ARKU A665 • All complaints will be heard by ASGJ **Hearing process is quick; be ready!

Running a Campaign • Planning • Platform: submit platform with application or via email to rgtrejo@uark.edu • Fundraising & Budgeting • Coordinating a campaign with a Senate candidate is NOT allowed. • Outreach • Meet & Greet • RSOs • E-Mail Lists (approved) • Visibility • Chalking: Sidewalks ONLY!!! • Social Media: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube • Flyers: Adhere to all rules & regulations of the building • NO STICKERS! • Administrative • Submit Expenditure Reports WITH receipts! **Required of each candidate • Use of University Logo requires Trademark Request Form • Use of University Facility Space requires Facility Request Form

  15. Fact or Fake? Stickers are a great campaign tool in this elections. FAKE! It’s not allowed to coordinate my campaign with a Senate candidate. FACT! The use of ListServs is ok if approved by the ASG Advisor. FAKE! Submitting my Expenditure report without receipts could cause me the election. Fact!
