  1. Facilities Coordinators Meeting November 3rd, 2011 Tennessee Board of Regents ada projects update

  2. ada projects update • Current remediation projects: • 2 Universities (APSU and TSU) • 13 Community Colleges • Beginning design work for remediation at 3 TTC’s (Hartsville, Crossville and Murfreesboro).

  3. ada remediation process • A Site and/or Buildings audit by PDS America is required to begin the remediation process. • The audit gives us our priorities and serves as a roadmap to remediation.

  4. ada remediation process • The remediation process follows the U.S. Department of Justice recommendations. • The “Outside-In” process starts with “accessible parking areas using accessible paths or routes to accessible building entrances”. • The idea is to complete an accessible route from the parking area to the building !

  5. ada remediation process Remediate outside the buildings first…….. Accessible Parking Accessible Path Accessible Building Entrance Completing exterior accessible routes…… Then, move inside the accessible buildings for interior remediation.

  6. ada project cd format • Based on current funding, remediation at most campuses is expected to include multiple projects over time. • Consequently, TBR requires an 8 ½ x 11 format for the project construction documents and the audit. This will allow for them to be stored together (side by side on the shelf ?) as “living documents” for reference on future ADA projects.

  7. ada project guide • TBR is currently working with PDS America to complete the “Guide for Public Universities and Colleges”. • It is a comprehensive guide for understanding the ADA as it relates to higher education. • The State of Tennessee should adopt the 2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design in March of 2012. • We anticipate issuing the updated Guide at that time. • And now…….here’s Barry !!
