  3. Attendance • Attendance is very important, even in Kindergarten. • Kindergarten builds a very important foundation for the following years to come.

  4. Kindergarten Curriculum • Reading: Houghton Mifflin • Letters and their sounds • 30 word wall words • 10 word families • Reading skills (story details, predicting, etc.) • Phonics Library Books

  5. Kindergarten Curriculum • Math • 4 Units • Counting, Cardinality, Operations, and Algebraic Thinking with Numbers to 10 • Measurement and Data • Counting, Cardinality, Operations, and Algebraic Thinking with Numbers to 20 • Geometry

  6. Kindergarten Curriculum • Writing: Kid Writing • There are several stages in Kid Writing. • Scribble Writing ( ) • Letter Strings (ekidkiels) • Inventive or Phonetic Spelling (hom for home) • Conventional Spelling • Some of these stages may intermingle!

  7. Special Subjects • Music, Movement & Art: taught in classroom throughout year. • Library: Ms. Havlik • Technology: Mr. Moyer • Guidance: Mrs. Shetler AM Kindergarten Day 1- Technology Day 4- Library Day 3 - Guidance PM Kindergarten Day 2- Technology Day 5- Library Day 3 - Guidance

Routine Procedures • Session Hours: AM Kindergarten 8:35-11:25 PM Kindergarten 12:30-3:25 • School bags: Send to school everyday. • Please label bags and all clothing (jackets/sweatshirts) • Daily snack: No snack unless requested by teacher due to allergies and short amount of instructional time. • Birthday Celebrations: No food treats. Goodie bags with toys, pencils, erasers etc. are other options.

  10. Routine Procedures • Transportation: Send me a note in your child’s homework folder if he/she is being picked up. • Book Clubs: Monthly flyers will be sent home. Online ordering is optional. • Absence Excuses: Please send an excuse note in when your child returns to school after being absent.

  11. Routine Procedures • 2 hour (emergency) Delayed Start • AM - Start at 10:30 am - Buses pick up 2 hours later than usual. Finish at 12:25 pm - Buses discharge 1 hour later than usual. • PM - Start at 1:30 p.m. - Buses pick up 1 hour later than usual. Finish at 3:20 pm - Buses discharge at usual time • 2 hour (planned) Early Dismissal • AM - Start at 8:35 am - Buses pick up at usual time. Finish at 10:25 am - Buses discharge 1 hour earlier than usual. • PM - Start at 11:30 am - Buses pick up 1 hour earlier than usual. Finish at 1:20 pm - Buses discharge 2 hours earlier than usual. PM Class only needs to pack a lunch on early dismissal days

  12. Home School Communication • Progress Reporting: • Conferences: Tuesday, Nov. 26 (11 am-8 pm) & Wednesday, Nov. 27 (8 am -12 pm) * More times are available the week before. See conference sign-up on the table. • Report Cards: *November you will receive a checklist * Pending Administration approval, trimester report cards for kindergarten only will be sent home the beginning of March and end of June

  13. Home School Communication • Weekly Homework Sheet • Help your child complete the day’s assignment and initial for the day when completed. Use another piece of paper if not enough room. • Challenge activities (*) • Behavior Charts: refer to handout • Notices: check homework folder each day for notes & papers to be completed/reviewed.   14. Parent Involvement • Volunteer • Parties, special activities, etc. • Working at home - cutting, tracing etc. • PTFS: PARENTS & TEACHERS FOR STUDENTS • Special Talents
