  1. Poetic Forms(Using the jigsaw method of study) What are the characteristics of the major poetic forms? (ode, epic, elegy, sonnet, lyric, and free verse)

Project • You will be assigned a poetic form to study. • You will work in small groups to research your poetic forms and to create a presentation. • You will teach your form to the class. • Your presentations are due Friday, Nov. 8. • You will have today and our next class period to work on them.

  3. Step 1: Research your form • Today, you will meet in poetic form groups. • Each group will research the form: • Your goal is to define the form AND • To find an example of the form AND • For each example to be DIFFERENT Notes: • You need only one or two stanzas of the form • In these groups, everyone is studying the SAME form.

  4. Step 2: Create presentations • During our next class period, you will meet in your groups by COLOR Note: in these groups, everyone has studied a DIFFERENT form. You will be the EXPERT in your group about your form. • Each group will create a presentation. • Together the presentations will cover all the poetic forms.

  5. Summary • Meet in the first groups by FORM to research and find poems. Note: In these groups, everyone is studying the SAME form. • Meet in the second groups by COLOR to put presentations together. Note: In these groups, everyone has studied a DIFFERENT form.
