  1. Once upon a time there lived Electra the electron .. s1

  2. Electra lived on the second energy level of her oxygen atom home with 5 brothers and sisters And two more brothers who lived in the basement, but we won’t worry about them

  3. Electra’s oxygen atom home floated hundreds of miles up in the Earth’s atmosphere Electra Along with countless billions x billions x billions of her electron friends

  4. Electra*WANTS* to JUMP up to ENERGY LEVEL 6 where she can be an EXCITED electron Electra at “rest” at home at ENERGY LEVEL 2 Electra yearned for the day when she could make the QUANTUM JUMP like all her brothers and sisters before her…

  5. Can YOU say QUANTUM JUMP? I KNEW you could!!!!

  6. Electra new that to make that jump would be the most EXCITING thing an electron could experience

  7. *ZAP* Just then… Electra gets EXCITED by a high energy particle from the sun and IMMEDIATELY jumps up toENERGY LEVEL 6

  8. The truly amazing part of her jump to ENERGY LEVEL 6 is that it took no time at all! LEAVE LEVEL 2 ARRIVE ENERGY LEVEL 6

  9. Electra LOVES being an EXCITEDelectron and hanging out with the OTHER billions x billions x billions of EXCITED Electrons who also jumped up to ENERGY LEVEL 6

  10. After a while of being an EXCITED electron on ENERGY LEVEL 6, electra starts to miss…. CAN ANYONE GUESS?

  11. That’s RIGHT… Electra is tired of being EXCITED all the time, she wants to go back to her room to be AT REST Back on ENERGY LEVEL 2

  12. Now comes the BIGGEST step an EXCITED electron can make… But to Jump back down to level 2, electra must LOSE energy to get to a lower ENERGY LEVEL DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEA HOW ELECTRA MIGHT LOSE ENERGY?

  13. That’s RIGHT!!!!Electra emits a PHOTON of light that contains the EXACT SPECIFIC amount of energy that she needs to lose to get back TO REST

  14. Electra wasn’t alone… in that moment, billions x billions x billions of other excited electrons emitted the SAME photon of light to get back “AT REST” on energy level 2 And what did ALL those EXCITED electrons create when they emitted a photon and jumped back TO REST on energy level 2?
