  1. Welcome to Open House! Midway Elementary School August 20, 2019

  2. Fourth Grade Teachers: Mrs. Knox (Math & Social Studies) Mrs. Hill (Language Arts & Science) Mrs. Click (Language Arts)

  3. S.T.A.R. Book • What is a S.T.A.R. Book? • It stands for Students Taking Active Responsibility. • It helps keep your child organized! • Please check it nightly for homework or other important notes.

  4. Every Friday is Important! Expect all your child’s graded papers for the week to come home with them on Fridays. Pull out all papers before the folder is returned. Please sign the sheet inside the folder to let us know you received the papers. Also sign the behavior calendar in your child’s folder. Send the folder back (signed) every Monday. Re-dos

  5. Weekly Newsletters There will be a weekly newsletter sent home each Friday. It will be in your child’s Friday folder.

  6. Language Arts ELA will have the same structure each week. There will be a focus skill, 5 vocabulary words (quiz every other week), and a comprehension passage. Students will also have to test on ONE AR book each week for a grade. For students to meet the grade level AR goal, they must read and pass (80%) TWO books each week.

  7. Math Students will have TWO math books this year. We will cover one to two lessons a week. There are practice questions for each lesson, worksheets, and workbook pages. Most days you will have time to complete some work in class, but you may have a small amount of homework (unfinished classwork). Please help your child keep up with math lessons because once you get behind it is hard to get caught back up. LATE work * questions are to be completed independently.

  8. Science & Social Studies Science:Students will be learning LOTS of new vocabulary and concepts through the use of PowerPoint, task cards, Kahoot, and other fun hands on activities. Science textbooks will not be assigned to each student, but they will be used in the classroom. Students will be assigned a workbook that will be kept at school. Students will also be responsible for keeping a science journal that will be taken for a grade each semester. Social Studies: Students will learn through PowerPoint presentations, online resources, plays and various stories. There are NEW SS books this year. They will be kept in the classroom. Students will bring home study guides for chapter tests (the study guides will be VERY similar to the test). There will also be vocabulary quizzes.

  9. Behavior Plan Follow the 3 R’s (Respectful, Responsible, Ready) Rewards: Tickets(surprise box) /Incentive Party Consequence: Minutes Walking Late Homework: Will result in a behavior number which will lead to minutes walking (recess)

  10. Snack Time Daily snack time (10:20am) Only one food and one drink item per day. NO candy, soda or energy drinks! Nothing that needs to be microwaved.

  11. Incentive Parties At the end of every nine weeks we will have incentive parties. If your child has earned 8 or less (first 9 weeks), or 6 or less (2, 3, 4th 9 weeks) behavior numbers they will be invited. If your child is referred to the office for any reason (including bus), they are automatically excluded from the party. Please refer to the behavior policy that was sent home. If your child has 3 UNexcused absences within a 9 weeks, they will not be able to attend the party. **Please note that 3 UNexcused tardies/early dismissals will roll over to one UNexcused absence.

  12. Birthday Celebrations You are welcome to drop party items off at the front office. Please give notice before dropping off items. They will be handed out at some point during the afternoon.

  13. Parent/Teacher Conferences: If you are ever concerned about your child’s behavior or academic progress, please send a note, dojo message, or email. We schedule conferences weekly at 1:50-2:30.
