Priority 2: Targeted Analyses based on user demand • New type of ESPON projects • Introducing new approach to project generation and implementation in partnership • Supporting use of existing ESPON results involving stakeholders and experts/researchers • Objectives • Provide evidence and knowledge based on ESPON results on strengths and weaknesses of individual regions/larger territories from European perspective • Improve usefulness of ESPON results by testing new, experimental and innovative options • Provide analytical support and evidence based on ESPON results on thematic priorities in cooperation with other SF Programmes

Priority 2: Targeted Analyses based on user demand • Specific characteristics • Stakeholders define content of projects • Stakeholders are involved in TPG selection • Stakeholders give guidance to targeted analysis • Stakeholders apply project outputs in practice & disseminate results • -> Stakeholders’ commitment essential for project’s success

Priority 2: Targeted Analyses based on user demand • Potential benefits for stakeholders • Enhance the understanding of their larger territorial context • Make comparisons to other territories, regions and cities • Provide a European perspective to considerations on opportunities • for their territorial development • Achieve customised & up-to-date information for policy development

Priority 2: Targeted Analyses based on user demand • 3 types of action • Integrated studies and thematic analyses • Knowledge support to experimental and innovative actions • Joint actions related to other Structural Fund Programmes • Criteria • European perspective • Transferability • Concrete implementation part • Geographical coverage of projects • More limited than Priority 1 with greater geographical detail • but • Due to transferable character of projects entire ESPON territory • benefits

Priority 2: Targeted Analyses based on user demand • A two-step procedure towards targeted analyses • Submission of expressions of interest (EoI) by stakeholders (i.e. public • authorities of EU27+4, partnerships of regions and/or cities). EoIs • approved by ESPON MC are basis for development of project • specifications/terms of reference • Call for proposals/tenders for targeted analysis mainly addressed to • research institutes and universities with the necessary analytical • capacity to carry out the analysis

  8. Priority 2: Targeted Analyses based on user demand • Volume of the call for Expressions of Interest • Up to 5 new project ideas can be selected • Available budget for the implementation of the related Targeted • Analyses amounts to 1.795.000€
