  1. HEALTH FOR CHINA UPDATE - AUGUST 2008 A TRIBUTE TO YING YING WHO PASSED AWAY ON 26TH JULY 2008.

  2. On 25th July, after 6 weeks at home, our dear Ying Ying was suddenly admitted to Healthcare with Gastro-Intestinal Bleeding. She was feeling dizzy and the situation became serious. At 4.30 am the next morning Ying Ying peacefully passed away to be with her loving Father. We are hugely thankful for the love and joy she brought to us throughout her 6 months stay at Healthcare and her final 6 weeks in which she experienced amazing restoration of health and energy. She had no pain. And she had an almost normal life again to the very day she was admitted so unexpectedly. For two previous years she gave herself to be a volunteer to our organisation and she proved to be a wonderful, caring member of our staff. We all miss her ready smile, warm conversation, and friendship. There are so many wonderful memories. Thank you Ying Ying for being such a wonderful friend to us all here at Healthcare.

  3. Attended by a good number of Family and Friends, Ying Ying’s Funeral service was held on Monday 28th July 2008. Many warm tributes were received in Honour of her life. Rest in Peace dear Ying Ying. We will always remember you.

  4. CEREBRAL PALSY WORK Dr Lynn, working with other staff members, is continuing to develop the Cerebral Palsy program. This month we have welcomed two new children into the program which is designed to extend their potential for physical and mental coordination and development. One of these children is a little girl, Yang Yang who has a lovely happy nature. She has currently entered our program and is being fully assessed at the moment. We look forward to seeing signs of progress in due course as the program develops.

  5. CEREBRAL PALSY WORK This bright happy little boy is M.X. who has just joined our CP Program. We assessed him to see what his developmental needs are. As you can see he has a lovely smile and seemed very pleased to be part of the program.

  6. CEREBRAL PALSY WORK. STEVE is making excellent progress. Here he is sitting unaided and learning to twist-turn around to look behind himself. Well done Steve!

  7. DENTAL HEALTH PROGRAM DURING JULY DR MAY VISITED BOTH HOPE HAVEN AND HEPHZIBAH CHILD CARE CENTRES TO INSTRUCT CHILDREN AND STAFF ON DENTAL HYGIENE, PLUS CHECK A FEW TEETH AT THE SAME TIME. HERE Q.B. SHOWS US HOW IT SHOULD BE DONE. MY, WHAT BIG TEETH YOU HAVE!

  8. NURSE JANE GETS INTO THE ACT AS WELL.

  9. AND WE ALL KNOW THAT GOOD NUTRITION IS AN ESSENTIAL PART OF DENTAL CARE – GROWING STRONG TEETH AND BONES. YUM.

  10. FAMILY DAY OUT AT FENG QING PARK 4/7/08 Healthcare staff and families plus the CP Children and their parents and carers enjoyed a fabulous day out at Feng Qing Park. Organised by the staff, the day was a tremendous success.

  11. Games and songs, Boating, walking, 3-legged races, hopping around, races holding a grain of rice with a chopstick --- Westerners were allowed something larger!!!! They even got Laurie (a kiwi, to sing an Australian song!!!) FENG QING GONG YUAN

  12. THIS MONTH WE WOULD ALSO LIKE TO SAY A VERY SPECIAL THANK-YOU TO ROB IN AUSTRALIA – HE MANAGES OUR COMPUTERS FROM A DISTANCE AND DOES AN EXCEPTIONALLY GREAT JOB. SOME OF OUR COMPUTERS CAUSE HIM ALL SORTS OF PROBLEMS. THIS MONTH WAS NO EXCEPTION. AND NO, HE DOES NOT USUALLY USE A HAMMER!!! THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP AGAIN ROB. WE APPRECIATE YOUR FAITHFULNESS.

  13. SICHUAN AND GANSU PROVINCE EARTHQUAKE RESPONSE After our initial medical team visit to Sichuan in May 2008, we also did a follow-up team of Jon, Farhan and Laurie to Gansu and Sichuan Provinces in July 2008. This visit was designed to find out what needs were still current. A Disaster Relief Fund has been able to be used to provide some immediate relief. Longer-term assistance is also being planned at present. A good number of people have already been helped in practical and financial ways and we are working on additional ways to provide other solutions JON FARHAN LAURIE This village at left, of 80 people, lost every single house in the earthquake. They have just 2 months to re-build before the start of winter brings extremely cold weather.

  14. CURRENT NEEDS • An additional local - (Chinese) Nurse is required, to assist our work. • Continuation of funds to enable us to provide for our ongoing Rural Health Training Program and free medical clinics. • Funding for the Cerebral Palsy program is needed. • Ongoing needs for Overseas medical professionals to join us throughout the year. • Resuscitation models for training (two adult models would be even better) • Answers sought to possible re-location needs.

  15. Many Thanks Once again we give thanks for your ongoing and faithful support for the work here in China. Lives are being changed for the better, as a result.
