  2. The Australian Government has launched an unprecedented campaign to remove 74 000 hectares of forest and non forested wilderness at the next World Heritage Committee meeting in Qatar in two weeks time.

  3. These areas were part of a 172 000 hectare extension to the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area agreed at last year’s World Heritage Committee meeting. This extension was publicly supported by Forest Industries Association of Tasmania and the CFMEU.

  4. World Heritage delivered by Tasmanian Forest Agreement 1. A genuine, lasting end to conflict over Tasmania's native forests through commitment to a long-term durable agreement that delivers: A. an ongoing, vibrant forestry industry in Tasmania based on native forests and, increasingly in the future, plantation B. protection of significant additional areas of native forest with important conservation values C. strong, resilient communities and decent and secure jobs for workers and contractors D. a strong focus on research and development to assist in driving these objectives. The Signatories recognise that the above outcomes are interrelated and no one outcome takes precedence over another.

  5. 37. The signatories recommend that Government nominate to the World Heritage Committee, for consideration in June 2013, the 123,650 hectares of the proposed minor extension to the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area.
