  1. Top 5 symptoms of engine trouble

  2. Introduction In life we don’t always appreciate things until they’re gone. Driving down the road to the beach and being stranded as a result of an engine failure is a case in example. Not being car negligent could have avoided this situation. Failing to fully consider the warning signs of the past will have consequences. It’s important for you to know of the common symptoms of engine trouble before there are consequences. Here are a few.

  3. 1. Warning lights Some simple rules of thumb to consider. If the lights on your car dashboard turn off automatically after each start, then everything’s good. If they don’t then that’s a sign that there is a problem and that immediate servicing is needed. Pay special attention to these critical engine warning lights: • Oil Level, • Oil pressure, • Engine maintenance.

  4. 2. Jerkiness Driving should be free of jerkiness and engine stalling. The drive from your car should always be smooth. If your car’s engine is irregular in it’s power and drive, it may indicate a pending serious engine problem. The cause of these problems can range from faulty spark plugs to clogged fuel lines, and blocked air filters.

  5. 3. Changes in Engine noise Changes in engine noise such as a tapping or popping sound from your car can indicate pre-ignition detonation within your engine cylinders. This can result in expensive piston damage. Don’t ignore these noises. If you experience a change in engine noise with your car, make sure you service it immediately.

  6. 4. Unpleasant smells Unusual smells can indicate serious engine issues. It may indicate oil, gas or coolant leaking from conventional closed loop systems which shouldn’t smell. It can also indicate harmful exhaust gases entering the cabin of your car. DO NOT ignore these issues in any way. 5. Smoke signals These are your red flags to observe: • Blue smoke: This indicates the escape of oil from its intended passage into the engine. • White smoke: This indicates leakage of water into your engine from the cooling jacket.

  7. A final tip… DO NOT neglect any of these symptoms before they have expensive consequences Always remember that regular servicing of your car is the key to keeping engine problems at bay. Prevention is always better than a cure.
