  1. Top 5 Symptoms Of Engine Issues

  2. Introduction In life we take things for granted until they have an impact. Driving to the beach and not getting there as a result of an engine breakdown is an example of this. A bit more care and attention would have avoided the inconvenience. Choosing to ignore the signs of engine problems in the past have led to this situation. Therefore it’s important for you to recognize many of the common symptoms of potential engine failure.

  3. 1. Warning lights Some simple rules of thumb. If your car warning lights turn off after each engine start, everything’s healthy. If not, it’s bad news. Servicing of the component becomes necessary. Pay special attention to these warning lights: Oil level Oil pressure Engine condition Battery condition Brake fluid level

  4. 2. Engine Pinking Increased engine noise or change in engine noise can indicate a looming problem. Tapping sounds from your engine can indicate pre-detonation of fuel. This can lead to expensive piston damage due to local overheating of the piston crown. Keep an ear out for ‘engine pinking’.If you experience ‘engine pinking’ with your car, have it serviced immediately.

  5. 3. Surging and Jerking Driving should be free of surging, jerking or stalling. Engine drive should be smooth at all times. But if your car’s drive is erratic due to the engine misfiring, it may indicate a serious engine problem or the onset of an engine component failure. Engine misfiring can range from faulty spark plugs to clogged fuel lines or a failing engine management system.

  6. 4. Exhaust Smoke Increased exhaust smoke can be a serious concern. These are your red flags to observe: Blue smoke: This indicates the escape of oil from its intended passage into the engine combustion cylinders. White smoke: This indicates cooling water is entering the engine combustion cylinders.

  7. 5. Foul Smells Unusual and noxious smells can indicate serious engine problems. It may indicate oil or coolant leaking from their conventional closed loop systems. At the same time it may also indicate harmful exhaust gases entering your car’s interior. DO NOT ignore these issues as they are potentially harmful.

  8. A final tip… DO NOT ignore any of these symptoms (if you experience any). But always remember that regular servicing of your car is the key to preventing these problems in the first place. Prevention is always better than cure.
