  1. A look at the Biblical Keys to a healthy family. This week: Biblical communication—Talking to each other the way God requires.

  2. Parents to Kids Don’t become the irritant • NEGATIVE: _____________________________ • Eph 6:4 Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.

  3. Parents to Kids Do become the expert • POSITIVE:______________________________ • Pr 22:6 Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.

  4. Kids to Parents Don’t become the expert • NEGATIVE: _____________________________ • Pr 19:27 Stop listening to instruction, my son, and you will stray from the words of knowledge.  

  5. Kids to Parents Do learn the art of listening • POSITIVE:______________________________ • Pr 1:8-9 Listen, my son, to your father’s instruction and do not forsake your mother’s teaching. They will be a garland to grace your head and a chain to adorn your neck.

  6. Kids to Parents Do learn the art of listening • POSITIVE:______________________________ • Pr 4:1-6 Listen, my sons, to a father’s instruction; pay attention and gain understanding.  I give you sound learning, so do not forsake my teaching.  When I was a boy in my father’s house, still tender, and an only child of my mother,  he taught me and said, “Lay hold of my words with all your heart; keep my commands and you will live.  Get wisdom, get understanding; do not forget my words or swerve from them.  Do not forsake wisdom, and she will protect you; love her, and she will watch over you.

  7. Kids to Parents Do learn the art of listening • POSITIVE:______________________________ • Pr 7:24 Now then, my sons, listen to me; pay attention to what I say.

  8. Kids to Parents Do learn the art of listening • POSITIVE:______________________________ • Pr 13:1 A wise son heeds his father’s instruction, but a mocker does not listen to rebuke.

  9. Extended Family (G-parents, aunts, uncles, friends, etc) • NEGATIVE: _____________________________ • Pr 26:17 Like one who seizes a dog by the ears is a passer-by who meddles in a quarrel not his own. Don’t help too much

  10. Extended Family (G-parents, aunts, uncles, friends, etc) • POSITIVE:______________________________ • Pr 12:18 Reckless words pierce like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing. Do be the peacemaker/healer

  11. Wives to Husbands • NEGATIVE: _____________________________ • Pr 19:13 A foolish son is his father’s ruin, and a quarrelsome wife is like a constant dripping. Don’t go negative

  12. Wives to Husbands • NEGATIVE: _____________________________ • Pr 21:9, 25:24 Better to live on a corner of the roof than share a house with a quarrelsome wife. Don’t go negative

  17. Husbands to Wives • NEGATIVE: _____________________________ • Col 3:19 Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them. Don’t be a jerk

  18. Husbands to Wives • POSITIVE:______________________________ • Eph 5:33However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband. Do be like Jesus

Husbands to Wives • POSITIVE:______________________________ • 1 Pe 3:7 Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers. Do be like Jesus
