  4. How do I divide decimal numbers by whole numbers? 1) Bring the decimal point up on top of the division bar. 2) Divide normally. Questions Answers 1) Move the decimal point in your divisor to the far right of the number. 2) Move the decimal in your dividend the same number of places to the right as the divisor. 3) Bring your decimal point up and divide normally How do I divide decimal numbers by decimal numbers? If the decimal quotient doesn’t terminate, how do I know when to stop? Divide out to the thousandths place and round back to the hundredths place. How do I know if a decimal quotient is repeating? If you complete the same subtraction problem twice while dividing.

  5. Place a decimal point in the quotient directly above the decimal point in the dividend. Divide as you would with whole numbers. Dividing a Decimal by a Whole Number Find the quotient. 3.56 ÷ 4 0. 8 9 4 3.56 – 32 36 – 36 0

  6. Multiply the divisor and dividend by the same power of ten. There is one decimal place in the divisor. Multiply by 101, or 10. Think: 1.3 x 10 = 13 5.2 x 10 = 52 Divide. Dividing a Decimal by a Decimal Find the quotient. 5.2 ÷ 1.3 1.3 5.2 4 13 52 –52 0 5.2 ÷ 1.3 = 4
