  2. Why Teaching? Scored high in the area to helping others-97%. Scored high in the area of teaching and planning-95%.

  3. Description Plan and implement instruction. Collaboration with others. Likes people, learning and making a difference in someone’s life.

  4. Education and Training Four year degree from a college. Preferably in the area you wish to teach. Pass necessary exams to earn a preliminary credential. Student teaching with a master teacher. Get hired and work with a mentor to learn the ropes and get a clear credential or credentials.

  5. Salary and Benefits Starting salaries varies among school districts. Beginning salary is also based on the number of credits you have earned beyond your bachelor degree. You can earn stipends for extra duties such as coaching or teaching summer school. Benefits include medical, dental and vision. You will have to be aware of the various plans and their expense by working with your HR division. You will contribute into STRS-retirement. Some districts offer other benefits such as life insurance.

  6. Employment Opportunities It depends on the area. Check with Edjoin-digital hiring system used by many school districts. Consider applying for positions at private, charter and county office programs. Being a substitute helps you gain experience and can help you get a job with a school that you enjoy subbing at. Advancement depends upon your goals. Such as administration, counseling, curriculum and instruction or technology. A master’s degree allows you greater opportunity for advancement. Getting another credential or supplementary authorization is also advancement.

  7. Tasks-there are many! Planning and implementation of the curriculum. Managing day to day activities-like taking attendance. ` Grading and providing feedback to students. Attending meetings at the school site or district office. Attending IEP’s, Parent conferences or phone calls. Attending Back to School Nights and after school activities. Continuing your own education to keep current.
