Executive Summary Goals: Create a Preschool to Employment path Implement an Inclusion model for all preschool children Increase number of children in preschool – up to 500 additional slots Upgrade special education preschool classrooms to state preschool standards. Provide professional development for all LUSD preschool teachers Grant Funds: $5,000,000 Required 33% match - facilities budget New program will generate new revenue With current SPED preschool enrollment: $2,400,000 Board Action September 17, 2019

  3. MAPPING FROM PRESCHOOL TO EMPLOYMENT • Raise the expectations of students and their families. • Desired outcomes for all students including students with disabilities: Earning a diploma College as an option Employment: Earning a living wage or family living wage

  4. MAPPING FROM PRESCHOOL TO EMPLOYMENT It all starts with Preschool • CDE Focus • Governor Focus • Preschool Inclusion grant: $167 million

  5. PRESCHOOL IN LUSD GENERAL EDUCATION 32 Classrooms with 633 students SPECIAL EDUCATION 22 Classrooms with 245 Students A total of 878 preschool students

  6. GOAL • Create an inclusive learning environment for all LUSD preschool students • Help students and adults see that a disability is a natural part of living • Provide all students learning opportunities

  7. THE CLASSROOM • General Education and Special Education co-teach -Clairmont • General Education teacher is supported by an itinerant special education teacher -Parklane, Beckman • Classrooms will have one general education para-educator and at least one special education para-educator

  8. THE GRANT • Upgrade existing special education preschool classrooms to state standards • Restrooms • Fire Clearance • Square Footage • Provide professional development for all preschool teachers: general and special ed • Include necessary adaptive materials and items needed for students to access the learning environment

Budget Information • Current Expenditures 5710 & 5730 • 28.86 FTE Certificated • 35.81 FTE Classified • 2019-2020 Budget: $6,706.258 • Program generates $0 Revenue • With Program Developed by Grant • Create about $2,400,000 in revenue for current number of SPED preschool students • Revenue increases as enrollment increases
