  1. Metals Gold (Au) Aluminum (Al) Next

  2. Metals are on the left side of the periodic table. They are malleable (can be pounded or rolled into sheets without shattering), have luster (shiny, reflects light from it’s surface), good conductors (matter that allows electricity to flow through it easily) and they are ductile (can be stretched into wires.) Next

  3. Helium (He) Neon (Ne) Non-metals Next

  4. Are found on the right side of the periodic table. They are Insulators (poor conductors), brittle(fragile, breaks easily) and dull (not shiny) Next

  5. Metalloids Boron (B) Silicon (Si) Next

  6. Metalloids can be found on the zigzag or stair case line in the periodic table. • Metalloids are a combination of metals and non-metals. This means their properties can be mixed from the properties of metal and non-metals. Next

  7. Malleable Metals can be pounded or rolled into thin sheets with out shattering. (Shattering means not breaking or cracking) Next

  8. Luster Shiny (reflects) light from it’s surface. Next

  9. Conductor • Good Conductor – is matter that allows electricity to flow through it easily. • Poor Conductor – does not allow electricity to flow easily it is like an insulator. Next

  10. Ductile • Ductile is when a metal be stretched into wires. Next

  11. Insulator • Does not allow matter to flow through. It is a poor conductor Remember a coat insulates you it doesn’t let the heat flow through and out. Next

  12. Brittle • Something that is fragile and breaks easily Next

  13. Dull • Not bright or shiny. Next

  14. Physical Properties Ductility • Are those that can be observed without changing the identity of the substance Malleability Luster Color, Shape, Mass, Volume Texture, boiling point Next

  15. Are pure substances, this means their atoms are identical (same) and can’t be broken down into a simpler substance. He C Next

  16. Compounds • Two or more elements that are bonded together. Next

  17. Hardness • The ability of one natural sample of matter to scratch another mineral. Next

  18. Color Next

  19. Streak Next

  20. Density Next

  21. Chemical Symbol Next

  22. Chemical Change Next

  23. Physical Change Next

  24. Precipitate Next
