  1. Welcome to First Grade! • My name is Mrs. Thomas • I’m married with three young children (2 daughters and one son). • It is my sixth year teaching First Grade and I LOVE it!!

  2. Important Information!! • PLEASE read the weekly Newsletter! It will be sent home every Monday and it has information about important news going on, special times, spelling words, vocabulary words, nightly reading, etc… A great idea is to hang in on the fridge  • Please check your child’s backpack and folder nightly for other important notes and daily work that they have completed. • Please have your child at school on time everyday. • Please send a note or call the office if there is a change in the way your child goes home!!

I will get back to you when I can though! Please feel free to text me as well, as that’s usually the fastest and easiest way to get a hold of me.

  4. Our day and Schedule • Our day will start at 8:00, breakfast is served from 7:40-8:00 in the cafeteria. • Lunch starts at 11:40 and it is followed by recess. • We have our daily activities (P.E. on Tues. and Wed., Library on Monday, Art on Friday, and Music on Thursday) from 2:20-3:00

  5. Classroom Rules • Work quietly • Follow directions • Work and play safely • Respect others’ property • Keep to your own space • Listen to others

  6. Behavior Chart • We have implemented a school wide behavior clip chart. It has 7 tiers which include: Awesome, Great Job, Good Day, Ready to Learn, Think About It, Teachers Choice, and Parent Contact. Each day every student starts on Ready to Learn and can move up or down the clip chart throughout the day depending on classroom behavior. • Rewards are “clip up”, verbal praise, treasure chest, jungle bucks (they write their name on it and I draw out names to get in treasure chest at the end of the day), stickers, etc..

  7. Poteau Primary School Pirate Pledge • We are Respectful, Responsible, and Safe. I promise to Respect myself, others, and my school. I am Responsible for my best in reading, math, and the rest. I promise to be Safe by following all rules and directions. I pledge to learn all I can and do my best to be the best I can be!

  8. Your child will be learning a lot this year and I look forward to working with them!! Please feel free to contact me with any questions that you may have. • The following papers are some helpful information on what your child will be learning this year.
