  1. PERLITE STONE AHMAD BADNJKI 995****7500

  2. What is Perlite? *Perlite is an amorphous volcanic glass that has a relatively high water content, typically formed by the hydration of obsidian. It occurs naturally and has the unusual property of greatly expanding when heated sufficiently. *Perlite is volcanic rocks noted among other igneous rocks by the presence of combined water (over 1 %). Porosity may be 8-40%. *Perlite is a non-renewable resource. In 2011, Turkey had produced 220,000 t of perlite, that turkey is the most 3rd place produces perlite over the world. *Perlite is one of the most multipurpose – universal material. It is noted for its light weight and low density and its inexpensiveness

  3. How Does Perlite Form? *Perlite is naturally formed, made by environmental circumstances. • *At the edge of rhyolitic magma flow, in places of initial contact of lava and earth surface “ground water, a lake or the sea”, quick magma cooling leads to formation of volcanic glass . Further, underground water penetrates volcanic glass , causing its hydration and formation of perlite or obsidian hydroxide. • *The volcanic glass, or perlite, forms into a glass-like structure. That is the reason why perlite is called volcanic glass

  4. How Perlite Is Expended? *Perlite is mined using open pit methods such as ripping or blasting, or both. If the perlite is soft and friable, brecciated or extensively jointed, ripping is employed with significant cost savings. Blasting is required where perlite cannot be readily broken using rippers, but care must be taken to achieve fragmentation without production of excessive fines or oversized material.

  5. Chemical Properties • Perlite is a form of volcanic glass (SiO2) that is mined all over the world. Perlite is an amorphous volcanic glass that has a relatively high water content, typically formed by the hydration of obsidian.  • obsidian is glasslike igneous rock formed by the rapid solidification of lava without crystallization. • http://www.wikizeroo.net/index.php?q=aHR0cHM6Ly9lbi53aWtpcGVkaWEub3JnL3dpa2kvUGVybGl0ZQ

  6. Physical Properties *Perlite has the unusual characteristic of expanding and becoming porous when it is heated. It can expand to as much as twenty times its original volume. Expansion occurs when the glassy lava rock is heated to 1600 degrees F (871 degrees C) and the water molecules trapped in the rock turn into vapor causing the rock to expand *It has high permeability / low water retention and helps prevent soil compaction. * This material is non-combustible, rot-resistant, biostable and chemically inert (PH=6.5-8). Due to these unique properties of perlite, it is widely used in construction industry. https://www.perlite.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/physical-characteristics-perlite.pdf

  7. Types of Perlite *Perlite is characterized by fine concentric shell-like cleavage (perlitic structure) by which it disintegrates into separate round cores (pearls) resembling pearls with characteristic luster. *Perlite may be black, green, red-brown, brown and white, with various shades. Varieties of perlite: obsidian perlite(with obsidian admixtures) , spherulitic perlite (with feldspar admixtures), amber perlite (homogeneous composition), glassy perlite and other varieties. In terms of texture, there are massive, streaky, brecciated and pumiceous perlites.

  8. Uses of Perlite • *Perlite is mainly ceiling tiles and roof insulation products, but also as refractory bricks (a refractory brick is a brick designed to withstand very high temperatures), pipe insulation, and filling in masonry block construction. Perlite is also used as an insulator to reduce noise and, since it is non-combustible, it also improves the fire resistance of different construction components in buildings. Generally speaking, the lighter the weight, the greater the Isolation properties. • *Perlite lightweight tile mortar is used for adhesive purposes (plasters) too

  9. Uses of Perlite • Lightweight perlite insulating concrete in pipes: • Lightweight perlite insulating concrete can play a multiple role in underground pipe and duct • installations. In addition to providing quality thermal insulation, perlite concrete insulation can also serve • as a supporting envelope. This latter advantage is of special importance when pipe or ducts are laid • under roadways, parking lots or other areas subject to traffic. Perlite concrete pipe insulation provides a • monolithic (seamless) insulation for the length of a pipe or duct. Additionally, perlite insulating concrete • is permanent, fire proof, rot proof and vermin proof. • https://www.perlite.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/perlite-concrete-insulating-underground-pipe-ducting.pdf

  10. Uses of Pumice • Lightweight perlite insulating concrete in pools • Perlite insulating concrete pool base can substantially reduce heat loss to the ground thus keeping pool water warmer for a longer swimming season. • This will reduce energy costs when pool water is heated. In addition, perlite pool base provides a firm, smooth, foundation that prolongs the life of vinyl liners. • https://www.perlite.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/perlite-insulating-concrete-poolbases-final.pdf
