Housing • Mexican houses are usually brick and concrete structures. • Despite being small and simple, the houses are warm and comfortable. • Large families will often live in one small house.
Toys • Most children in Mexico don’t have direct access to store-bought toys, so they make their own. • These consist of string and cloth dolls, whittled slingshots, and simple marbles. • A very popular toy “pet” is a flying beetle tied to a string.
Pets • Dogs are a common pet in Mexico, and are treated well, but are seen simply as animals. • Birds are also a popular pet.
Music • Latin style is very popular in Mexico. • Mariachi bands are musical groups of several members that play lively and upbeat music.
Holidays • The day of the dead is celebrated on November 2nd. Skeleton-themed decorations are placed everywhere, and offerings such as candy and flowers are made to dead relatives and friends. • Cinco de Mayo is c a celebration of a major victory over the French occupying Mexico.
Sports • Soccer is the most popular sport in Mexico. • Boxing is also widely liked. • Bullfighting is a traditional and enjoyed by many people, but cruel to the animal.
