  2. HUNGER • As a result of being hungry, have you experienced on a daily basis: • A gnawing feeling in your stomach? • Light-headedness? • Dizziness? • Headaches? • Lethargy or weakness? • Inability to concentrate? • A craving for food? • Pain?

  3. HUNGER • THOUSANDS of children in Florence School District 1 (FSD 1) regularly experience those symptoms. • They may not know where their next meal is coming from. • THEY ARE TRULY HUNGRY. • Working together, and with God’s help, we can strive to end this hunger for our local children.

THE PLAN • Officials at FSD 1 have been briefed on this outreach ministry and support it. • As of late October 2013, ten churches, in partnership with businesses, service clubs and members of the community are: • Providing during the school year pre-packaged, self-serving nutritious food to take home for the weekend to elementary school children in FSD 1 who are at risk of hunger.

  5. THE PLAN • Meals are currently being provided to 13 of the 14 elementary schools in FSD 1 for distribution to children who are at risk of hunger: Briggs McLaurin Carver N Vista Delmae Royall Dewey Carter Savannah Grove Greenwood Timrod Lester Wallace Gregg Lucy T Davis

  6. THE PLAN • The project is growing, and God willing, with community support, it will expand to all 14 elementary schools in FSD 1.

THE PLAN • At-risk children within the free and reduced lunch population have been identified by school administrators. • A permission agreement with participating families was distributed. • At the beginning of the year, participating students who needed them were given backpacks, in which their meals will be carried. • The children will keep the backpacks, but must return them each week to be refilled.

  8. THE PLAN • There is no cost to either the school or participating families for the food or the backpacks. • Meals are bagged by volunteers and are delivered to the schools by volunteers. • Meal bags are discreetly placed in the backpacks by school personnel.

  9. THE PLAN • The food consists of nutritious, child-friendly, self-serving foods that are selected using the Feed America guidelines and best practices. • With the support of local food vendors, the cost is between $2.00 - $3.00 per bag. • $100 will feed one child for the academic year.

  10. FUNDING • The project is relying on the generosity of individuals, churches, businesses and service clubs in the community. • Various fund-raising and food drive activities have been conducted and will continue. • An application for tax exempt status was prepared and the organization is awaiting the final documentation from the IRS.

  11. HOW YOU CAN HELP • Monetary donations. • $100 will feed one child for the academic year. • Volunteer. • See the volunteer form on our website: • www.help4kidsflorence.org • Provide in-kind sponsorship and donations. • Conduct a food drive. • Spread the word.
