  3. Tau Beta Pi is… An honor society that recognizes engineering students of “distinguished scholarship” and “exemplary character” The ONLY interdisciplinary engineering honor society The second oldest honor society in the nation

  4. Why should you join? Boost your résumé Meet engineers inside and outside your major Network with corporate reps Help the community through TBP service projects Receive Money, money, money Enjoy delicious, free food Have FUN!

  5. So… how do you join TBP?

  6. Standard semester-long initiation process Go to an info session Have an informal interview Email us your résumé Attend all 5 candidate meetings Pay life-time dues of $85 Complete a sig block Pass the Constitution Quiz Create a scrapbook page Attend 1 faculty fireside Go to 5 social events Complete 10 service hrs Polish a rough cast bent Look snazzy on Dress-Up Day Come to the Initiation (and get free food at banquet) Let me break it down for ya!

  7. Go to an info session • Have an informal interview • We want to get to know you and give you the low down on the requirements • PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE do not dress up • Email us your résumé as a PDF

  8. Attend all 5 candidate meetings- Feb. 7, Feb. 14, Mar. 7, Mar. 28, Apr. 11- ALWAYS Thursdays at 6:00PM • - Check your test and organization schedules

  9. Pay life-time dues of $85 Complete a sig block + +

  10. Pass Constitution Quiz • Learn about us and our history • Create a scrapbook page • Learn about another pledge and continue a TBP tradition • Attend 1 faculty fireside • Meet with some outstanding faculty! Learn how some helped end the Cold War, invented the ethernet, and advised presidents.

  11. Attend 5 social events

  12. Complete 10 Service Hours • At least 3 hrs from a team service project • At least 3 hrs from TBP sponsored events • Any remaining hrs from other team events, other TBP events, or individually proposed projects

  13. Polish a rough cast bent • A bent of the trestle, the symbol of our society • File, sandpaper, and polish a rough bent to a mirror finish • It’s a metaphor for you! 

  14. Look snazzy on Dress-Up Day • Show your TBP pride and dress in business casual the day of the 5th meeting (April 11th) • Come to the Initiation (and get free food at banquet) • Friday, April 19th • Mark it now!

Professional DevelopmentPrepare for the job by practicing your “soft skills” with TBP • Events • Mock Interviews • One-on-one interviews with an officer • Practice Presentations • Create a slide and present to an audience of TBP members • “Hot Seat” • Test your nerves during this live, random Q&A session where you are the focus of attention for 5 minutes
