Background • May 2013 ExeCom meeting decided on AFA’s IYFF agenda-Recognition of Family Farmers • Land Rights • Investments in Sustainable Agroecological Approaches • Increased Market Power of Farmers • Representation in Key Consultative and Decision Making Bodies • Attracting the Young to Agriculture • National and Regional level efforts have been pursued to respond to AFA’s IYFF agenda • Consultations, Participatory Research, Policy Proposal and lobbying efforts have been done focusing on Young Farmers (FACT approach) • Supported by partners (Agriterra, local NGO partners)

Objectives of Session 1 • Generate deeper understanding and appreciation of Young Farmers situation • Issues and concerns • Existing initiatives for young farmers (AFA member, government, CSOs, etc) • Identify key priority recommendations • Policy proposal (national and regional) • Programs / mechanism • Agree on AFA’s mechanism for young farmers • Mobilize support from partners

Session 1 Flow • 10:30 – 12:00 Workshop A 2 Break-out group • Southeast Asia (Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia) – Plenary room (Facilitator: Lany) • South Asia, Northeast and Central Asia (Banglandesh, Nepal, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Mongolia, Kyrgztan) – Room B • Lunch Break: Young farmer caucus • 12:00 – 12:45 Plenary Reporting • 1 young farmer reporter from each group • 1:30 – 2:30 Workshop B • 2:30 – 3:15 Plenary Presentation • 3:15 – 3:30 Break • 3:30 – 4:00 Youth presentation and responses

  5. Workshop A: Flow • AFA member Presentation • Guided sharing through World Café • Situation of young farmer: issues and concerns • Initiatives (FOs, government, CSOs, etc) • Priority recommendation

  6. Workshop B: Flow • Support needed from AFA and partners • to enhance existing initiatives and respond to the policy and program proposals • AFA’s mechanism / system on Young farmers
