  1. Systems Engineering MSE 504 Group 4 O.T. Okpechi FadiBader Jas Sehmbey Christopher Norman AbdulrahmanAlansari

  2. Systems Engineering What is Systems Engineering An Approach A Discipline Brief History- Bell Labs, Apollo project The Systems Engineering Process System Life Cycle-A Detailed Approach Conceptual Stage, Technical Feasibility Stage, Development Stage, Commercial Validation & Production Preparation Stage, Full Scale Production Stage, Product Support Stage, Disposal Stage O.T. Okpechi

  3. Conceptual Stage *Conceptual stage spends about 1% of the cost of project, the decisions made therein determine about 70% of life-cycle cost of the product. *In the Technical Feasibility Stage, about 7% of the development costs has been spent, but about 85% of life cycle costs are determined. Fadi Bader

  4. Development Process Design, Testing and Development are done concurrently on prototypes to make improvements. Development is not limited to just physical activities. -Quality Assurance, Coordination, Planning, Management, Improvement and Morale and Satisfaction Jas Sehmbey

  5. Production/ Systems Engineering • Planning for Production • Supply Chain Management • Availability of Resources • Relationships with Suppliers / Distributors • Production Planning • Facility Design • Upgrade Existing • New Facilities • Production • Build Facilities • “Shake Down” • Produce and Distribute • Remain Flexible to Changes • Six Sigma, etc… Christopher Norman

  6. Product Support Stage Being close to the customer may lead to: Improvement in subsequent production New product spin-offs Major product design changes Preparation of technical manuals Preparation of O/M manuals Customer service program Development of warranty plans Manufacture and distribution of repair parts and replacements Disposal Stage In the early stages of product or design process Example: FGD (Flue-Gas Desulfurization) to remove waste (SO2) from exhaust Abdulrahman Alansari
