  1. Florida Everglades !! Everglades 4-eva “River of Grass” BY Mr Hawes’ Class !!!

  2. By: Tommy Whipple Bromeliads were recorded into history about 500 years ago!! Bromeliads grow in the New World tropics. (and the subtropics) I think bromeliads are important and there one of the only plants that are related to the pineapple. Although the pineapple is the only member of the family cultivated for food, several species including Caroa (Neoglaziovia variegata) are cultivated as a source of fiber. Pineapple stems are a source of the protein-digesting enzyme bromelain used as a meat tenderizer. Because fresh pineapple also contains bromelain, it cannot be used in gelatin molds since the enzyme breaks down the congealing proteins. Spanish Moss (Tillandsia usneoides) contains a tough, wiry core that was once used as a material for stuffing upholstery. Bromeliads Rule!!!! Most bromeliads come from South America and a lot are from Brazil After a few years the bromeliads have become more widely used as ornamental plants

  3. Lightning Whelks Lightning whelk Whelk Lightning whelks are very large edible predatory sea whelks. Their scientific name is Busycon Perversom. These whelks are marine gastropod mollusks in the family Melongenidae. This species has a sinistral or left-handed shell Lightning whelk egg sack Lightning whelk

  4. The great Egret is found all over the world but mostly in the state of Florida. It` s wingspan can be over 50 inches long and it can be distinguished by it` s bright yellow bill and black feet .The great Egret is not a concern to scientists because there are many all over the world.

  5. FERNS!!! Ferns are a varied, highly-evolved group of plants. Ferns are grate for all gardening. Indoor and outdoor shade and sun gardens. Rock gardens, ponds, and bog gardens any place you put them they’re awesome!!!

  6. FLAMINGOS!!!!!!!!!!! Flamingos have huge necks, a true fact is that they do not sleep the only rest , when they rest they either stand on 1 foot or tuck them selves in a ball.

  7. Wood Storks The wood storks habitat is a watery land, like marshes ,and the everglades. Wood storks live in a salt water habitat ,and feed on different salt water fish. This animal has a featherless Head. This bird can snap his beak shut in 25 milliseconds. These animals live here so they can have a healthy environment. I be live these animals would be able to live this conservation with out getting hunted, or hurt. These animals are awesome, cool , and fly like SUPERMAN !!!!!!

  8. Everglades Panthers RAWR DON’T MESS WITH ME! The Florida panther was designated Florida's state land animal by the 1982 state legislature. It is easy to see why the Florida panther drew the admiration of the state's leaders. The panther is a beautiful, wild cat that inhabits the regions of the state that best exemplify the natural interior habitat that Florida is best known for. Most Florida panthers live in the Everglades, which is like a wide, shallow, tall grass-filled, river that flows through the width of south Florida. Some panthers also live just outside the Everglades in parts of Broward, Collier, Hendry, and Lee counties. Everglades swamp Just chillin Yayyy Dinner time! Panthers Mommy and baby The Florida panther is an endangered species. The Florida panther is the last population of its species east of the Mississippi River. Now the Florida panther is protected by state and federal laws. Long ago, panthers used to be found in Arkansas, Alabama, Georgia, Missouri, and Mississippi. Gradually, as habitat was lost, panthers disappeared from these areas. Cute But Dangerous Rawr Strong jaws, long teeth, and body are important to the panther for hunting, as are its sharp, retractable claws. Panthers are nocturnal, but hunting at night isn't a big problem. These animals are excellent hunters. They hide in bushes, watching their prey. Suddenly, the panther tears its unfortunate catch into pieces. Panthers will eat almost anything, even each other! They will also eat raccoons, armadillos, rabbits, and even rodents and reptiles. Some of their favorites, however, are feral hogs, deer, and wild turkey. Even so, panthers have never been known to disturb a human. “Can I haz cake Pwetty Pwease?” Rawr A panther's diet mostly consists of meat, or large mammals, but they also eat birds and reptiles. They are extremely fast and strong, so it is easy to catch their pray By Leanne price

  9. Saw Grass!! Saw Grass is so named for its spiny, serrated sharp edge it could be used as a deadly saw. Try getting past that. The edge is triangular. Alligators are one of the only animals that can crawl right over the grass. Bye Bye!!!

  10. Cypress Trees Cypress Trees The Cypress Tree most of the time is shaped like the lit candle on your birthday cake. The needles on the tree are a yellowish green color and have a smooth and shinning curved surface. Cypress trees are found in the sunny Florida everglades. Two species of cypress occur in the Everglades, the bald cypress (Tax odium distichum) and the pond cypress (Tax odium ascendens). Cypress trees, the most flood-tolerant of all Florida tree species, grow in areas that are covered in water for longer periods than the surrounding marshlands. Cypress trees sometimes form large circular-shaped patches of cypress, also known as cypress domes, with larger trees toward the center pond area. Out of the extensive regions of saw grass marsh, arise occasional tree islands, known as cypress savannas. These are open habitats primarily composed of pond cypress trees living on poor soils. 11. Blue Herons are part of the heron family Ardeidae. They are found usually found near open water and wetlands. There’re nests are big and bulky. It usually takes about 28 days for them to hatch. You can find them in the Everglades, they feed of the fish that live there. Blue Heron

  12. They move on land by there stomachs. By: Dylan Whittaker!!!!! I think snakes are really important because they eat the mice and rats that eat your food and make you get sick. My cousins had a snake , but it died. There are 45 species of snakes, but 6 are venomous, so watch your back really hard or else you might you may get bit hard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Snakes Snakes are the other species of reptiles that survive from the Dinosaur age. Some snakes are afraid that predators might eat them, so they use camouflage to disguise them selves.

  13. A large white species similar to Common Spoonbill, from which it can be distinguished by its pink face and usually paler bill. Its food includes insects and other small creatures, and it nests in trees, marshes or rocks SPOONBILLS! Large white bird species similar to Common Spoonbill, from which it can be distinguished by its pink face and usually paler bill. Its food includes insects and other small creatures, and it nests in trees and marshes.

  14. Marshes!!!!! A marsh is also called wetlands in which animals such as the goose and duck lives in. Many marshes are in the everglades in Florida. Marshes are not swamps but both are wetlands. Even though they are both wetlands marshes are shallower and flatter than swamps. Without marshes some animals would have no home and die.

  15. florida panther The Florida Panther, Florida’s state animal, is one of the most endangered mammals on earth. It is tawny brown on the back and pale gray underneath. It mostly eats white tailed deer. Also known to eat feral hog, rabbit, raccoon, armadillo and birds. The panther is known as many names-puma, cougar, mountain lion, painter, catamount, and panther.

  16. Florida chicken turtles are a cold-blooded animal. They are Similar to the Eastern painted turtle, but they have a long, Striped neck, that is close to the length of the shell, with a Yellow stripe on both forelegs and rear legs. Florida chicken turtle  Florida chicken turtle!

  17. mangrove trees THEY’RE SO PRETTY Mangrove trees are a type of tree that lives in the ever glades. There roots grow under the water but the rest of the tree is above water. Mangrove trees grow in fresh water. They are a really pretty type of tree. I love mangrove trees

  18. The swamp lily is a really pretty flower that you can find in the Everglades!!!! Swamp lily is found in southeastern U.S and is a perennial herb with an onion-like bulb. The leaves are erect to spreading. Leaves are strap like, to three feet long. The swamp lily is important to the everglades because many insects like to feast on it. You should never pull this flower out of the ground because it will damage the insects natural eating habits and they may die. The swamp lily is a part of the Everglades ecosystem, and people should respect it!  The swamp lily!!!

  19. Ashingas!!! The ashingas species can be found all over the world in warm and shallow waters, such as the Everglades. This fluffy bird has a few nicknames, like the “snakebird”, “Darter”, “American Darter”, or the “water turkey”. The word “Ashingas” comes from the Bazillion Tupi language and means “devil bird” or “snakebird”, which is why the ashingas has those nicknames. The ashingas is not able to waterproof it’s feathers like the duck. The ashingas is a member of the darter family. 
