  2. Timetable • Morning session - preparation • The Friedman-Sage framework • Group work on C-5 • Full session to clarify any terminology or general issues • Afternoon session • Panel discussion on C-5 and the other case studies (including Thames Barrier)

  3. Friedman –Sage Framework Phases in the systems engineering lifecycle Necessary processes and systems management support

  4. Materials • C-5 Galaxy case study (full) • Executive summaries for F-111, Hubble and the Theater Battle Management Core System • Friedman and Sage Systems Engineering concepts paper • Previous work on the Thames Barrier

  5. Group work (am) • Groups of 4 • Learning Principles distributed 1 per person • 15-20 minutes private study of the overall background with a focus on your learning principle • 5 min each to present to the group • Group discussion • Identify issues • Propose systems engineering practices in support or mitigation • Executive summaries + Thames Barrier allocated to individuals • 15 minute individual review of the case study learning points • Group discussion • Generalise issues • Identify spokesperson for afternoon session

  6. Panel discussion • Members • Team reps • Airframe Structures (Sia Noroozi) • Organisations (Ian Beeson, Paul Head)) • Project Management (Terry Winnington) • Chairman • Two phases • To discuss the learning principles from C-5 and the other case studies • To debate good and bad practice in Systems Engineering
