Desert Features • Sand covers only about 20 percent of the Earth's deserts. • Rain does fall rarely in deserts, and desert storms are often violent • Some desert plants store water in their leaves, roots, and stems. • Lakes form where rainfall or meltwater forms where it accumulates.

Any other exciting things • Animals in the desert eat plants and each other to survive • Many feed on the roots, stems, leaves, and seeds of plants • Some animals get enough water from their food, but others must travel to water holes • Camels are the most well known desert animals because they can cross the desert better than any other animal.
