Under ordinary conditions, the agent is securely stored in capsules. Being completely isolated of environment , it emanates no vapor or gases. Can be stored for years, remaining fully operational and ready for fire extinguishing.

In the process of extinguishing, the hotbed of fire is the only place subjected to action of the agent while surrounding structures and objects remain unaffected.

Upon heating, the micro-capsules response to ignition on their own and release desired amount of the fire retardant instantly quenching the flame.

AST uses a combination of chladones as an extinguishing agent. The extinguishing agent is stored inside capsules in a liquid state.When the temperature rises to a predetermined threshold, the liquid boils and quenching occurs in the gas phase.

Extinguishing mechanism is based on the chemical inhibition of the combustion reaction. When injected into the combustion zone inhibitor decomposes with the formation of free radicals, which react with the primary products of combustion. Thus, the combustion reaction inhibited.

This principle is classified as a volumetric gas quenching.

According to the SP 5.13130.2009 considering changes № 1, enacted by Order of MES of Russia 01.06.2011 № 274

Switchboards and cabinets (including distributional ones), located in the premises of a F1.1 fire hazard class (equivalent to 100 liters) MUST be protected autonomous fire extinguishing (p.8 Table A4)

F1.1 fire hazard class includes: buildings preschool educational institutions, specialized nursing homes (non apartment type), hospitals, dormitories educational residential care and childcare.

Premises for computing machinery, equipment control system working in the management of complex technological processes, the violation of which affects the safety of the people regardless of the area, MUST be equipped with automatic fire extinguishing systems, but if all electronic and electrical equipment is protected by autonomous fire-fighting installations, such extinguishing systems may not be installed. As premises for the communication processors (servers), magnetic media archives, plotters, printing information on paper (printer) area of ​​24 m2 or more, must be equipped with automatic fire extinguishing. And it is allowed not to use such facilities, provided that all electronic and electrical equipment is protected by autonomous fire-fighting installations. (Paragraph 35 Table A3).

Thus, the operator of the premises has a choice between automatic gas fire extinguishing systems for protection of facilities and stand-alone equipment to protect electrical equipment.
