  1. A response to the inevitable effects of deforestation and its contribution to climate change.

  2. What is DuneScape? DuneScape is an MMORPG focusing on climate change and overconsumption. Players use resources from the environment to level up their characters and unlock more features within the game. In our nonrenewable world, players compete with the other 100,000 concurrent players for these resources. Because supply is limited, players are obligated to discover new ways to level up their characters and figure out sustainable ways to survive in the world.

  3. What is DuneScape? To emphasize the urgency of sustainability, the world of DuneScape will begin to change overtime. As more trees are chopped down, as more fish are caught, as more houses are built, the world will begin to die. Green trees will begin to wither, and lakes will no longer have fish. These changes will force players to adapt and find alternative ways to level up - allowing the world to regenerate once again.

  4. DuneScape: How to Play DuneScape will retain all of the same mechanics and skill progression systems of RuneScape: Old School in regard to farming, mining, and other skills used to harvest the world’s resources. The defining change would be a restructuring of the toll taken on the overworld by deforestation and woodwork, incorporating the real-world consequences at an accelerated rate.

  5. Sustainability Deforestation is a key issue in DuneScape. The more trees being chopped down, either for fuel or urbanization, the less trees you’ll begin to see in the game. We want our players to find alternative, sustainable solutions to this problem.

  6. Target Market The initial target market for DuneScape would be mostly males between the ages of 10-20 years old. Older players would have the ability to utilize that information in the real world and take action in regards to climate change. Our goal would then be to expand our reach to a more diverse audience. Younger players are more retentive to new information, so they’d get a better understanding of how climate change affects our planet.

  7. Network Structure and Google Stadia Google’s technological advantage will bring players, developers, streamers, and viewers closer together, manifested in millions of connections to a global network of data centers. Stadia’s freedom from the limitations of boxed consoles will greatly increase multiplayer options.

  8. Opportunities for Revenue Generation Post launch of DuneScape, there would be the implementation of a subscription to the game, which would approximately make up about $750,000 in sales. This subscription would allow for more advanced levels to be unlocked on a bi-weekly basis and gives the user access to special features such as: • Getting houses, mounts, etc. • Learning activities so the user knows how to access resources needed to complete missions • The opportunity to void the hard-reset and continue moving on in the game.
