    2. A very brief history ..........   The Academy was established during the sixties, as the Administrative Staff College (ASC) in Mumbai under the inspiration of the former Chief Minister of Maharashtra and Deputy Prime Minister of India, the Late Shri Yeshwantrao B. Chavan. The ASC shifted in 1984 to Pune, and was named as the Maharashtra Institute of Development Administration (MIDA). The main objective, then determined, was to function as the nodal state level training institute for development administration in Maharashtra. Subsequently on November 26th, 1990, MIDA evolved as the Academy for Development Administration and was named in honors of its founder Chief Minister.

Objectives of the Academy ..........  • To promote modern management science for economic and social development • To develop organisational capability and leadership in development planning • To conduct operational research and formulate policy alternatives • To support individuals, organizations and institutions in the use of management Science • To provide consultancy services in development and public administration • To function as the nodal State-level training institute for development administration

    4.    Our Mission...   ‘‘Our Mission is to enable equitable and sustainable development by promoting people-centered good governance. We achieve this by bringing together practical knowledge, applied research, appropriate technology and innovative training of public administrations community based organizations and people’s representatives’’  

    5.   Our Vision...   To be recognised as the most innovative and achievement oriented SIRD in the country, and to reach not only at national level but also at the international level. SIRD is also establishing itself as State Resource Center for Training, Consulting and advocacy in Rural development related emerging Scenario.

    10. Activities at SIRD ......  1. Training of PRI Functionaries… (a) Training of non-officials, i.e., Chairpersons of ZPs, Subject Committees of ZPs and Panchayat Samitis (b) Organising Induction and Foundation training programmes for Class I and II Officers of the Maharashtra Development Services (c) Organising training courses for officers of Line Departments such as the Zilla Parishad Offices, Agriculture, Social Welfare, Animal Husbandry, Women and Child Welfare etc . (d) Organising Training of Trainer Programmes for Panchayati Raj trainers.

    11. Target Groups for Training… A. District Officials Functionaries from Rural Development Departments: Chief Executive OfficersDy. Chief Executive Officers Block Development Officers Project Director, DRDA Extension Offivcers Gramsevaks B. District Officials Line Departments: Agricultural Animal Husbandry Water Supply and Sanitation Irrigation Education Women and Child welfare

PRIs Functionaries:         - Zilla Parishad Presidents          - Zilla Parishad Members          - Panchayat Samitte Sabhapati          - Panchayat Samitte Members          - Village Panchayat Sarpanch          - Village Panchayat Members D. NGOs : The Backward areas from the HDI point of view should be targeted first for imparting training to above Functionaries

(b) Organising training programmes on HRM, O&M and interpersonal relationships. 4. Information Technology
