  2. Social Action is a theory developed by social theorist Max Weber (1864-1920) and adopted by sociologists. Social Action Theory seeks to understand how individual make decisions and take action in relation to their social environments, this can be local, national or global. The theory is about how individuals interact with society i.e through cause and effect and how these actions affect the function and direction of society as a whole. Social Action Media is about group or individual actions to bring about change, which is recorded or promoted through the media. What is the purpose of social action • Looking at your key areas you now need to identify which categories your issues fall into: • to bring about local, national or global change • to change attitudes • to raise awareness • to create access to media production for minority groups • to challenge dominant representations i.e stereotypes • to create or strengthen community ties • to provide information • to campaign • to change voting behaviour • to infiltrate mainstream media • to build relationships with people
